‘A Portrait of the Queen’ Box Set Compiles 1970s Music From Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin is known as the “Queen of Soul,” a moniker that will be celebrated in a new box set of her work. Out via BMG on December 1, A Portrait of the Queen – 1970-1974 collects the early 1970s work of the acclaimed singer-songwriter.

The set spans five albums from Franklin, starting with 1970’s This Girl’s in Love With You. From there, it includes Spirit in the Dark, released the same year, along with 1972’s Young, Gifted and Black and 1973’s Hey Now Hey (The Other Side of the Sky). The collection will round off with 1974’s Let Me in Your Life.

A Portrait of the Queen will be available in an LPx6 version and a CDx5. In addition to the albums, it’ll also feature 11 bonus tracks and rarities.

A Portrait of the Queen – 1970-1974 launches on Rough Trade, among other retailers, on December 1.
