Emmerdale fans work out icons return after tragic family death

Actress Charley Webb could make a return to Emmerdale, with fans predicting her character, Debbie Dingle, could return to the Dales following a family death.

Viewers of the long-running soap will remember Debbie departed the Dales three years ago, and after moving to Scotland she was then joined by her grandfather Zak.

Following the heartbreaking death of actor Steve Halliwell, who had played Zak since 1994, fans have predicted that the soap will likely play tribute to the actor, with an episode focusing on Zak's funeral.

And if this does indeed happen, viewers have speculated that it could mean the return of Debbie, if only for a short time.

Posting in a Facebook group for fans of the soap, one viewer wrote: "Debbie has to [come back]. Zak will probably die in Scotland with her. She could come back to the village to break the news."

And another added: "Hopefully when the time is right and the writers give Zak Dingle a good send off funeral, I hope they bring back a lot of ex Dingles for the episode. He deserves it."

While over on X, formerly Twitter, one fan predicted: "Could #Emmerdale have the 10,000th episode to be Zak Dingles funeral and the return of Tina Dingle ( among other Dingles that showed at weddings, funerals, birthdays etc… over the years.)"

Charley's potential return to the soap comes on the heels of her split from husband, and fellow ex-Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden.

Matthew, who recently left the soap after 17 years, and Charley had been together for over a decade before calling time on the relationship.

And since the split, Matthew is reportedly dating professional dancer and personal trainer Heather, with the pair being spotted on a cosy night out in London.

The actor has also furiously denied any reports that he's been unfaithful to Charley.

Reposting a snap of himself and new girlfriend Heather Matthew told his followers it was "just to set the record straight".

The caption underneath the photo, which was posted on an online article, referred to the romance "reportedly starting before his split from Charley", which Matthew has now firmly denied.

"This (so called) reporting is an out and out LIE!" the soap star said. "Can you leave us alone now?"

He also wrote: "Glad to get that off my chest! And if you want to come see us both in Elf – click the link for tickets!"
