Watch Live: Stars speak on the National Television Awards red carpet
Denise Welch took to Instagram yesterday to reveal the reason behind her absence at this year’s National Television Awards.
Several of her Loose Women co-stars, including Linda Robson, Charlene White, Brenda Edwards, walked the red carpet ahead of the glitzy ceremony.
In view of her 410,000 followers, Denise explained that health issues stopped her from making it to the awards last night.
The ITV star took a selfie, which showed her sporting a rather watery-looking eye, with the caption: “Due to a lovely eye infection I can’t join my fellow Loose Women at the NTAs.
“Good luck to our fabulous team and I’ll be keeping my one eye on you!!!”

Loose Women was once again up for the Best Daytime award last night, having last scooped up a similar prize at the NTAs in 2010.
However, the ITV show has failed to pick up any more NTAs since 2011 – and this year was no different, as the show lost out to BBC’s The Repair Shop.
In previous years, the show had been snubbed in favour of rival ITV programme This Morning.

However, This Morning lost its daytime crown this year following the fallout from the controversy surrounding former presenter Phillip Schofield’s exit from the show.
Denise was not the only Loose Women star to announce she would not be attending the NTAs this year due to health reasons.
Her co-star Ruth Langsford last week revealed on Instagram that she had “the lurgy” and would be staying in bed with a hot toddy.
Later on, she clarified that she is actually suffering with a chest infection.
“My ‘lurgy’ is actually a chest infection! So here I am on antibiotics and a steam vaporiser twice a day!” she told her one million followers.
As well as The Repair Shop’s victory in the Daytime category, other big winners at the NTAs last night include EastEnders for Best Serial Drama, Sarah Lancashire for Best Drama Performance, Strictly Come Dancing for Talent Show and The Traitors for Best Reality Competition.
