Britney Spears dad Jamie has leg amputated and is not doing well

Jamie Spears was rushed to hospital last month with a severe infection that resulted in a leg amputation, it is reported.

The 71 year old, who is the father of pop icon Britney Spears, recent I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate Jamie Lynn, and film producer Bryan, reportedly suffered a "massive infection that landed him in a hospital for weeks."

According to TMZ, Jamie had "five unsuccessful surgeries to contain the infection, and doctors decided the only way to proceed was amputation."

The source also claimed that Jamie is "not doing so well" and has been dealing with other ailments. Plus, being "downcast amid the torrent of criticism over his handling of the conservatorship, something he thinks is terribly unfair."

OK! has contacted representatives for Britney Spears for comment.

It's common knowledge that Britney, who turned 42 on 2 December, was placed under a controversial conservatorship back in 2008.

The legal agreement meant that the singer was unable to make decisions regarding her personal life and career.

Instead, her father was appointed to deal with her affairs and financial estate, which is estimated to be around $60 million.

After a long legal battle, Britney regained control of her assets, but the highly publicised event also revealed tensions among the family.

However, Britney invited her mother Lynne to Los Angeles to celebrate her birthday at the weekend, and photos were shared on social media of the two hugging and smiling together.

This recent reunion suggests the family feud has been put to one side, which could mean that Britney may reach out to her father in his reported time of need.

The source added to TMZ that the Oops.!.. I Did It Again singer has "softened" toward Jamie recently, insisting that there have been times when she's openly admitted to missing her dad.

The source also added that Britney even spoke about sending him some money to help him out.

Jamie has had a long struggle with alcoholism that has been widely documented, and he was admitted to rehab back in 2004.

Then, in 2018, he also suffered a colon rupture. Following the near fatal illness, he was taken for emergency surgery and spent a further 28 days in hospital.

Meanwhile Jamie Lynn Spears left I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! early last week on “medical grounds”.

In a post to Instagram on Thursday, she wrote: “I can’t wait to share with y’all everything about this once in a lifetime experience, but I don’t even know where to start when trying to describe what an incredibly special time and place I had with some of the absolute best humans I have ever met and consider family now.
