The Handmaid’s Tale: Ann Dowd on Lydia and June’s season 6 reunion
Ann Dowd who stars as the brutal disciplinarian Aunt Lydia on Hulu’s hit drama, The Handmaid’s Tale has spoken about her character’s crucial meeting with June Osborne (played by Elisabeth Moss).
Fans will recall the nail-biting final scene between the duo in season four when June made her last successful attempt to flee capture.
After enduring horrifying torture at a prison facility, June was able to get her own back while she was being transported back to the Red Center with the other Handmaids.
While the driver stops at a railroad crossing for a brief bathroom break, the women make their desperate attempt at freedom.
As the guard shot two of them down, Alma (Nina Kiri) and Brianna (Bahia Watson) were hit by the train, leaving only June and Janine Lindo (Madeline Brewer).

“I think about how Lizzie and I are going to come together because June and Lydia will need to meet in season six.”
Dowd continued: “It’s such a complicated relationship and she’s been away for so long and what’s going to happen between them? I can’t wait to find out how that plays out.”
She teased: “There’s a lot they have to say to one another, I’m really looking forward to that, for sure.”
While many fans are eager for another showdown between the two, other viewers believe Lydia could redeem herself and help the Handmaids flee Gilead’s wrath.
Throughout season five, Lydia grew weary of the state’s authority as she began to question Gilead, the commander and the law she once boldly upheld.
Upon Janine’s return to the Red Center, the disciplinarian was noticeably nicer to the Handmaid and seemingly empathised with her.
Dowd previously told The Hollywood Reporter Lydia has some regret at how she treated Janine, including harrowing the season one punishment.
“She made a mistake with Janine, she can’t quite forgive herself for taking that eye out. That was an emotional response to a girl who had the nerve to curse right in her face.
“She now feels responsible for her and will look after her all of her life. And seeing how Janine will never be the same; she changed the soul of innocence,” the actress concluded.
