My Mum Your Dad’s Elliott on how it ‘didn’t work out’ with co-star Sharon

My Mum, Your Dad star Elliott Davidson has opened up on how it ‘didn’t work out’ for him and co-star Sharon Benson.

Elliott and Sharon, both 53, met on the new ITV show, hosted by Davina McCall and dubbed ‘middle-aged Love Island’, earlier this year. And they delighted fans of the programme when they revealed they were still a couple after it finished airing in September.

But earlier this month it emerged the pair had split as they struggled to make the relationship work. Now Elliott, speaking exclusively to OK!, has opened up on the sad break up – saying he and Sharon were still on ‘good terms’.

He added: “It’s just the way things go. It just doesn't work out sometimes.”

The PE teacher went on to talk about life following his appearance on My Mum, Your Dad. He said: “What has been really nice is the response to the show. There’s been a lot of people reach out through social media to say how much they’ve enjoyed it so to be a part of that has been fantastic. It was so much fun.”

Elliott revealed he was still in touch with fellow stars of the show and had recently enjoyed a ‘great night’ out with fellow contestants Paul and Roger. Meanwhile his son Zach, who nominated him for the dating show, was said to be close to another one of the children to appear on it – Tia.

Zach, who enjoyed his time on the show too, also spoke to us about future TV plans – including whether he would consider an appearance on ITV’s Love Island. He said: “If the opportunity came along I’d think about it. I’m not going to say no just right now but we’ll see.”

Earlier this month it was reported that Elliott and Sharon had split because of the distance between them. Sharon is based in Sunderland with her two daughters, Mimi and Tia, while Elliott lives in Essex with Zach.

A source told MailOnline: "Elliott and Sharon had every intention of making their relationship work, but they knew it was always going to be tough. With Elliott's job, he could only really come up to see Sharon out of term time and she's had her own life-changing issues to deal with, namely her mother's passing. They split on good terms and will remain friends."

Sharon and Elliott were one of only two couples to come out of ITV's My Mum, Your Dad this year. Fellow stars Roger Hawes and Janey Smith's relationship is still going strong months after filming finished, with the duo becoming fan favourites.

Widower Roger, 59, and Janey, 47, have been keeping fans updated on social media with their romance, having enjoyed holidays and days out together.

The duo have also now landed their first TV deal together. Roger and Janey will be sharing their adventures through travelogues on ITV's This Morning. The announcement was made earlier this month on the show with Dermot O'Leary revealing the their upcoming contribution to the programme.
