Gwyneth Paltrows simple act of kindness that saved womans life on 9/11

9/11: 20 years on since terror attacks on World Trade Center

Gwyneth Paltrow unintentionally saved a woman from being killed in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Lara Lundstrom Clarke, from New York, claimed that a chance encounter with the Oscar-winning actress on September 11, 2001, made her late for her job at the World Trade Center and therefore saved her from being in Tower Two as it was hit by a plane that fateful morning.

Lara, who was 24 at the time, was an account manager for Baseline Financial Services and while she was on her way to work a silver Mercedes SUV nearly hit her.

Speaking to The Morton Report in 2011, she recalled: “I stopped and they screeched to a halt. Then it developed into one of those classic who-goes-first situations.

“It got ridiculous. Then I made eye contact with the Mercedes driver. OMG it was Gwyneth Paltrow.”

The stark encounter resulted in Lara missing her usual subway train to work.

“At that time I was annoyed at everything that had made me late that day, including Gwyneth Paltrow,” Lara said.

By the time she caught the next train and exited the World Trade Center stop, it was 8:47 am, which was the time the first plane tragically crashed into the first tower.

Lara was then instructed to go back to the underground and wait at the train platform.

“It was total chaos being stuck in the basement of a building. All I could think about then was my parents and if I died, what it would do to them,” she went on to say.

“My heart was racing, I was paralyzed. I couldn’t even speak. ‘Get me outside, I need to be outside,’” Lara said, as she remembered her terrifying ordeal.

But being trapped in the basement of a building would be the least of her worries as moments later, the second plane tore through her 77th-floor office in Tower Two.

She credits Gwyneth for being her life-saver, pointing out: “If I had made that train I would have been at my desk on the 77th floor of 2 World Trade Center.”
