I have no freedom because my possessive husband is checking on me all the time | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: THERE isn’t a thing I can do without my possessive husband checking up on me.

I’m 59 years old and I’m a wheelchair user.

My husband is 64 and he’s always been overbearing, however, recently he has taken things to a whole new level.

When I go out he visibly bristles if another man talks to me.

When I was younger, I could never go out alone.

I was bed-bound during the pandemic and although I can get around more now, I’m lonelier than ever and don’t know what to do.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s his own insecurity and fears which feed this behaviour.

I’m sorry that you are feeling so isolated.

Can you talk to your husband about how lonely and down you feel?

If you can both read my support pack Dealing With Jealousy it will help you to understand just how damaging this dynamic is.

l would also recommend womensaid.org.

It offers a questionnaire you can take to see if your husband’s behaviour is abusive.

It is important you see your doctor and talk about how low you are feeling.
