London-based fashion label YMC has connected with legendary nightlife photographer, Dave Swindells, for a new T-shirt capsule, competition, and charity fundraiser in celebration of Swindells’ 2020-released book, Ibiza ‘89, which was originally released by cult London publisher, IDEA Books.
The summer of 1989 was the first time Swindells visited Ibiza and it represented a turning point for the island. After that summer, the largest clubs — such as Ku and Amnesia — were forced to put roofs over their outdoor dancefloors, which came hand-in-hand with the launch of the so-called “British invasion” of Ibiza, where generation after generation of British clubbers would visit the White Isle.
This time on the legendary dance island has been encapsulated in the new YMC x Dave Swindells collaboration, with images from Ibiza ‘89 being displayed across three white YMC T-shirts. The photographs show revelers on the White Isle during the “Second Summer of Love,” with each image being captured by Swindells over the course of a week-long assignment for 20/20 Magazine in 1989.
Originally limited to 1,000 copies, Ibiza ‘89 has become a collector’s item in the three years since it was first published. Now, as well as the release of the three T-shirt designs, YMC is also running a free-to-enter competition to win one of five signed copies of the third edition of Ibiza ‘89.
Additionally, 10% of all revenue from the collaboration will be donated to Cancer Research UK. Commenting on his new collaboration, Swindells said: “I chose this charity as this disease has had such a profound impact on so many lives, including many people who have been and are very close to me.”
