The British Fashion Council announced the first nominees for the 2023 Fashion Awards earlier this year, awaiting the annual celebration in London on December 4. While the initial report revealed contenders for Model of the Year, British Menswear Designer, British Womenswear Designer, New Establishment Menswear, and New Establishment Womenswear, the BFC has declared ten candidates for Designer of the Year and BFC Foundation.
The Designer of the Year award celebrates international creatives impacting the industry through innovation and creativity. This year’s nominees include Daniel Lee for Burberry, Jonathan Anderson for JW Anderson and LOEWE, Matthieu Blazy for Bottega Veneta, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons for Prada, and Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
The latter bid farewell to Alexander McQueen at Paris Fashion Week after a 26-year tenure, while Prada began and Bottega Veneta closed out Milanese festivities with immersive city-wide runways. Jonathan Anderson and Daniel Lee presented in London, calling monstrous crowds to glimpse their latest collection.
The BFC Foundation award recognizes a stand-out NEWGEN designer making noise worldwide, outlining their bright future ahead. Contenders for 2023 include AARON ESH, Chet Lo, Connor Ives, Paolo Carzana, and Sinéad O’Dwyer. The five creatives hosted runway shows at London Fashion Week in September, cementing themselves as ones to watch.
The 2023 Fashion Awards will be hosted at the Royal Albert Hall on December 4, 2023. Tickets are available now via the Fashion Awards website.
