East London-based rapper Lancey Foux has just dropped his latest project, BACK2DATRAP, and it’s the musician’s eighth full-length release since his debut album Pink in 2015.
Having dropped various singles in the lead-up to the release of his new project — including “MMM HMM,” featuring Sexyy Red — this new release from Lancey Foux shows no real theme, cohesion, or story throughout. However, throughout the record, it’s evident that was always the plan.
Packed with 12 songs that dip into high-voltage instrumentals partnered with quick-fire lyricism, BACK2DATRAP is a project designed to be shuffled, offering variety and little bits of all of Foux’s highest qualities.
Additionally, the production throughout the record is an intoxicating blend of pitched-up vocals, slippery synths, contorted drum patterns, and a collection of bars that give us an up-to-date narration of where Lancey Foux is in life right now.
Features are kept to a minimum, with the only guest coming in the form of Sexyy Red. For the rest of the tape, the remaining 11 records continue to prove why Lancey Foux is highly regarded as one of the most exciting musicians in the UK right now, presenting songs that tap into previous love affairs, life before music, his obsession with fashion, and more.
You can check out one of the lead singles from BACK2DATTRAP above and the project is available to stream in its entirety now.
In other music news, Cardi B has confirmed the release of her next album.
