Vernon Kay receives supportive phone call from parents
Vernon Kay said his achilles are “shattered to bits” following his 115-mile ultramarathon, which raised over £6million for Children In Need last week.
The 49-year-old returned to his presenting duties on BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday, and according to his co-star Zoe Ball, he looked better than he should after the gruelling four-day challenge.
But admitting he looked better than he felt, Tess Daly’s husband said he was suffering with many aches and pains.
He explained: “Well my achilles are shattered to bits, that’s completely gone.
“I’ve got to have a little bit of work on that, the knees are aching, calves are sore.

“Thighs and quads, gluteus maximus is a little bit achy as well.
“But to be expected, and apart from that, we raised six million quid!”
Vernon started his 115-mile trek from Victoria Park in Leicester to the finish line at Bolton Wanderers’ stadium over four days.
Listeners were regularly given updates about his progress as his “physically and mentally draining” challenge unfolded.
On Monday, the presenter said he was “exhausted” and “full of cold” with a chesty cough.

“I think it’s because we were running constantly and I was changing my clothes every seven or eight miles,” he explained to listeners.
“But now I’m taking lots of vitamins and ginger.”
After hiking over Kinder Scout, he also jokingly asked if anyone was available to replace his knee.
On Vernon’s return to the studio today, the team greeted him with loud cheers and confetti as he walked through the door.
Alongside the video shared on BBC Radio 2’s Instagram, a caption read: “Welcome back to our Bolton Wanderer!”
