FM broadcaster Fox has claimed the biggest increase in audience share in the seventh radio ratings survey of 2023, while 3AW* has retained its position at the top of the ladder despite a significant drop.<\/p>\n
In good news for ABC Melbourne, which fell to a record low of 5.8 per cent in the first survey of this year, the broadcaster has climbed 0.6 points from the previous survey to an overall share of 8 per cent.<\/p>\n

ABC Radio Melbourne\u2019s breakfast host Sammy J enjoyed a substantial ratings jump in the latest survey.<\/span>Credit: <\/span>Joe Armao<\/cite><\/p>\n ABC also enjoyed gains among its other stations: In Melbourne, Radio National increased by 0.2 points to 2.1 per cent, NewsRadio was up 0.3 points to 1.4 per cent, youth network Triple J grew by 0.2 points to 3.7 per cent, and ABC Classic also rose 0.2 points to 1.4 per cent.<\/p>\n Fox recorded a 10.5 per cent share of Melbourne\u2019s radio listeners (up 1.1 percentage points) while FM king Gold took a 12.4 per cent slice (down 0.3 points).<\/p>\n 3AW suffered the biggest drop (down 2.3 points) while retaining its crown with a 13.5 per cent share.<\/p>\n Smooth is now the third-ranked FM station on 8.5 per cent (down 0.8 points), followed by Kiis on 7.1 per cent (up 0.2 points), Triple M on 6.9 per cent (up 0.9 points), and Nova on 5.7 per cent (down 0.6 points).<\/p>\n It is important to note that many programs do not correlate precisely with pre-determined timeslots from ratings provider GfK, which now measures audiences using a range of methods to capture listening across traditional AM and FM broadcasts, the DAB+ digital platform, and streaming via devices such as phones and internet-enabled smart speakers.<\/p>\n In the crucial breakfast slot, 3AW\u2019s Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft enjoyed a thumping lead of 18.5 per cent, despite shedding 3.2 points. Gold\u2019s The Christian O\u2019Connell Show<\/em> took second place with an 11.5 per cent share (down 0.7 points), with Fox\u2019s Fifi, Fev & Nick<\/em> program breathing down his neck on 11 per cent (up 1.5 points \u2013 the biggest gain in breakfast). ABC Radio Melbourne\u2019s Sammy J did almost as well, jumping 1.4 points to a share of 10.1 per cent.<\/p>\n In mornings, 3AW\u2019s Neil Mitchell was No. 1 with a 15.7 per cent share (down 3.9 points), followed by Gold\u2019s Craig Huggins on 14 per cent (up 0.8 points). In fourth place, ABC Radio Melbourne\u2019s Mornings with Rafael Epstein<\/em> and The Conversation Hour with Richelle Hunt<\/em> contributed to an 8.8 per cent share (up 1.1 points).<\/p>\n Fox\u2019s Carrie & Tommy<\/em> program won the drive slot on 11.8 per cent (up 2.3 points), leapfrogging Gold\u2019s Dave \u2018Higgo\u2019 Higgins<\/em> show on 11.3 per cent (down 1.9 points). 3AW\u2019s Tom Elliott had a 10.2 per cent share (down 1 point).
