The ex-criminal swapped his life of\u00a0crime\u00a0to become a recognised\u00a0author\u00a0and\u00a0celebrity.<\/p>\n

Courtney shared tales of his past with readers \u2014 from being shot to having to kill in order to stay alive.<\/p>\n

During his career, Courtney published six books and starred in his own\u00a0film titled Hell To Pay.<\/p>\n

He also made a living from appearing in numerous television documentaries, speaking about his criminal past and associates, and also acting in movies.<\/p>\n

Dave claimed to have links with many notorious gangsters such as\u00a0Reggie Kray\u00a0and Lenny McLean \u2014 and is best known for organising security at Kray's funeral in 1995.<\/p>\n

Courtney has made claims that he has spent time in\u00a0Belmarsh Prison\u00a0as a high security prisoner.<\/p>\n

These claims were backed up by ex-prison guard Jim Dawkins in his book The Loose Screw.<\/p>\n

Courtney had a few close shaves when it comes to serving time \u2014 in 2009 the former gangster avoided jail time after being charged with two firearm offences.<\/p>\n

However, former members of the\u00a0Richardson gang, Bernard O'Mahoney and Frankie Fraser, have accused Courtney of fabricating and embellishing his past criminal record – which Courtney has denied.<\/p>\n
