Usher may have grown up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but the performer has left his mark on Las Vegas over the course of his musical career.<\/p>\n
The singer has performed his fair share of one-off shows and his My Way<\/em> residency in the city and now, he\u2019s being honored with a key to Las Vegas.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, the city celebrated the R&B star with a ceremony conducted by City Councilman Cedric Crear and Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who declared October 17 to be \u201cUsher Raymond Day.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cCouncilman, thank you so much for this momentous moment,\u201d Usher said in a speech. \u201cI know the efforts that go into doing something like this and I don\u2019t take it for granted.”<\/p>\n \u201cI wanna thank you for your belief in the future and your ability to be able to recognize those things that actually do grow your city. I am someone who is not just contributing by way of entertainment, but also to the heartbeat of the city.\u201d<\/p>\n Last month, it was revealed that Usher would be the headliner for the Apple Music halftime show at the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII. It\u2019s the first time the championship will take place in Las Vegas, set to go down at the Allegiant Stadium on February 11.<\/p>\n \u201cWe all know he is going to be headlining something for the first time \u2014 I don\u2019t know if you really comprehend this, but for the first time in the history of the NFL, the Super Bowl is going to be here in Las Vegas,\u201d Councilman Crear said. \u201cHow fitting is it that the entertainment for the Halftime Show is gonna be \u2014 and we already claimed you, my man \u2014 is our own Usher Raymond. And we know you\u2019re gonna do us proud.\u201d<\/p>\n
