The 27 Club contains some very revered and beloved musicians, including the likes of Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin and Brian Jones.

AI has recreated the artists as they would be now, had they still been alive – most of whom would be in their 80s.

The 27 Club – also known as Forever 27 – is an informal list of artists, actors, and icons who died at the age of 27.

While there is no scientific reasoning behind this, the cultural phenomenon began when a number of famed musicians died at that age between 1969 and 1971.

With Kurt Cobain’s death at 27 in 1994, the club became part of the zeitgeist and something artists have written numerous songs about.

Now AI has reimagined those famous faces who were gone too soon as legends in their 40s, 50s and even 80s.

Amy Winehouse is known as the most recent addition to the 27 Club, following her death in 2011 from alcohol poisoning.

Since her death there have been other additions, such as actor Anton Yelchin, but Winehouse stands out as the last great rocker inducted.

The AI version images her still looking youthful at 40 with the signature beehive black hair piled on top of her head.

Her familiar wide eyes are not given the iconic black winged eyeliner, instead presenting a softer, parred-down makeup that has become popular post-pandemic.

The Tears Dry on Their Own singer still has her familiar pout, although AI has given her a sprinkling of age lines and wrinkles.

One of the greatest guitarists of all time, Jimi Hendrix appears still rocking bold prints and colours albeit in a calmer style.

Hendrix, who would have been 80 today, was known for wearing clashing prints, chaotic jackets and still looking utterly cool.

The Voodoo Child singer died on September 18, 1970 at London’s St. Mary Abbots Hospital from a barbiturate overdose.

This AI rendition bears a slight resemblance to Morgan Freeman so we’re not as convinced on this one.

The only other woman on the 27 Club list, and one of the first to join, is Janis Joplin who died mere weeks after Hendrix.

She died of a heroin overdose at the Landmark Motor Hotel on October 4, 1970, and would have been 80 now.

The rock and blues icon is imagined with a face tattoo in one picture but keeps her long signature hair loose with stacked jewellery and her effortless hippie style.

While the AI imagines her to have many more wrinkles and age lines, it also mimics her warm smile and pictures her still playing guitar.

Rolling Stones legend Brian Jones is often regarded as the first member of this infamous club, having died on July 3, 1969.

Jones tragically drowned in his swimming pool in Hartfield, East Sussex, and was discovered by his girlfriend.

His death was ruled to be caused by ‘misadventure’ but fan theories of murder have swirled ever since.

Hendrix actually dedicated a song to the late Stone while on live TV, a year before his own death.

Jones’ AI counterpart, now 81, has kept his blonde bowl cut although it’s not imagined as thick as it was in his 20s.

The rocker wears an old denim jacket and holds a guitar, fitting for the founder of the greatest rock band.

The Doors’ Jim Morrison joined the 27 Club following congestive heart failure, although the cause of death is disputed.

His death came two years to the day that Jones died, a somewhat coincidental connection given Morrison’s poem called ‘Ode to L.A. While Thinking of Brian Jones Deceased’.

Morrison was found dead in the bathtub by companion and singer for The Doors Pamela Courson, who also died aged 27 just three years later.

The AI version of the would-be 80-year-old, keeps the singer’s curly hair although it is now a silver colour and much thinner.

In another picture, Morrison is imagined to have a thick grey beard in-keeping with modern trends.

Another rock legend, Ron McKernan, died during this brief period in the early 70s from a gastrointestinal haemorrhage.

The Grateful Dead founder had dwindling health after alcohol abuse in his early years combined with an autoimmune condition.

He temporarily stepped back from the band before coming back to tour with them and worsening his health.

McKernan reportedly cut ties with his bandmates and told them: ‘I don’t want you around when I die.’

AI imagines the late musician with long white hair and a long white beard – the 78-year-old wouldn’t look out of place with ZZ Top.

Nirvana legend and beloved singer, Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994 pushed the 27 Club into the zeitgeist.

The Smells Like Teen Spirit singer would have been 57 now but died by suicide in his home amid drug and mental health interventions.

Drummer Dave Grohl, who went on to form the Foo Fighters, said the news was ‘probably the worst thing’ that had happened to him.

He shared: ‘I remember the day after that I woke up and I was heartbroken that he was gone. I just felt like, “Okay, so I get to wake up today and have another day and he doesn’t”.’

AI Cobain has kept his grungy hair, looking grizzly with stubble almost like a blonde Norman Reedus combined with Sean Bean.
