A handy map has been created which reveals the most popular tourist sites around the world.<\/p>\n
Generated using five years of Wikipedia page view data, the maps show the national landmark that is most frequently read about on Wikipedia.<\/p>\n
The aim was to find out what the world\u2019s most \u2018wondered about\u2019 landmarks and attractions are.<\/p>\n
In the UK, the Stonehenge archaeological site in Wiltshire is the most popular landmark, with 13.5million page views on Wikipedia.<\/p>\n
Across the pond in the US, it\u2019s the Statue of Liberty, with the Wikipedia page views for the monument numbering 19.8million.<\/p>\n
In Australia, the Great Barrier Reef has most people\u2019s attention with five million page views.<\/p>\n

In total, there are 32 cultural and historical sites, 32 parks and reserves, 26 ancient ruins, 20 mountains and volcanoes, 17 bodies of water, 15 religious landmarks, nine islands, seven modern architectural sites and two deserts.<\/p>\n
The data was put together by travel insurance firm\u00a0AllClear, and then used to redesign world maps.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere Europe, some famous places rank highly: the Eiffel Tower in France (17million page views), the Sagrada Familia in Spain (11million page views), the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland (1.9million page views), the Colosseum in Italy (12million page views) and the Acropolis in Greece (4.8million page views).<\/p>\n

In North and Central America, Niagara Falls is top in Canada (8.7million page views) and the\u00a0Mayan pyramid Chichen Itza is number one in Mexico (6.9million page views).<\/p>\n
Several national parks make the list too \u2013 Los Haitises National Park in the Dominican Republic (98,000 page views); Cocos Island National Park in Costa Rica (833,000 page views); and Masaya Volcano National Park in Nicaragua (212,000 page views).<\/p>\n

In South America, the Christ the Redeemer monument is most searched for in Brazil with 6.8million page views and Machu Picchu (14million page views) is top in Peru.<\/p>\n
In Oceania, one of the more unusual landmarks to make the list is Jellyfish Lake (375,000 page views) \u2013 it\u2019s a lake filled with non-stinging jellyfish in the island nation of Palau, so you can touch them without being hurt.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile in Asia, in India, the Taj Mahal is an obvious top spot with (28million page views).<\/p>\n
