Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid was quick to shut down a controversial discussion about Russell Brand’s recent sexual abuse allegations in a tense interview with Andrew Pierce.

During Tuesday’s visit (September 19) to the ITV studios, the 52-year-old broadcaster welcomed viewers to the morning news programme with her co-host Richard Madeley.

The presenting duo discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines which included the response to the explosive Dispatches documentary which aired over the weekend.

It didn’t take long before things turned frosty in the studio after the GB News star, 62, joined the pair to discuss his recent clash with co-anchor Beverley Turner.

Throughout their 15-minute segment, Pierce and 49-year-old Turner locked horns over the shocking abuse allegations Russell Brand is currently tackling.

On Saturday (September 15), the actor and comedian, 48, was accused of rape, sexual assault and physical and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013 during the height of his fame.

The tell-all Channel 4 Dispatches documentary, Russell Brand: Hiding in Plain Sight, was made in conjunction with The Times and The Sunday Times.

Since the special hit the airwaves, Brand has taken to his YouTube channel to shut down these claims and insisted all his relationships have been consensual.

Pierce was astounded after Turner branded the actor a “hero” in a post shortly after the news broke online.

It didn’t take long before the pair came to blows live on air, but it was something Pierce said during his appearance that prompted the broadcaster to shut down the interview.

As they chatted about the allegations, Pierce chillingly remarked@ “I was told yesterday that it's the tip of the iceberg.”

Richard couldn’t help but confirm: “You were told that?” to which Pierce replied: “Yep” before Susanna changed the topic, adding: “Until allegations come out, we just don’t know what it is.”

Turning now to Turner’s comments about Brand, Pierce told the presenting duo: “It was offensive and insulting – what about the four women who made these serious allegations? We all know how difficult it is for women to go to the authorities.”

Since The Times published its bombshell investigation on Saturday, the outlet has reportedly been contacted by “several women”.

Brand has been accused by several women, including one who claimed she was just 16 years old at the time.

He has also been accused of pursuing audience members for sex while presenting Big Brother spin-off shows EFourum and Big Brother’s Big Mouth on Channel 4. while other allegations relate to when he was a radio presenter for the BBC.

Following the documentary, BBC and Channel 4 have launched their own investigations while a women’s charity has cut ties with the actor.

Brand worked for the BBC between 2006 and 2008, until he stepped down after a controversial prank to call to Andrew Sachs with Jonathan Ross which was later dubbed Sachsgate.
