You star Penn Badgley has revealed he was 'given advice on how to masturbate' by the show's directors.
The 35-year-old actor has portrayed serial killer Joe Golberg on the hit Netflix series for three seasons, with the fourth currently in production.
Speaking recently, Penn discussed the graphic scenes he had filmed for the show, including a number of scenes which saw his character indulge in self-pleasure.

Confirming that he had been asked to portray the act of masturbation "so many times" while filming, Penn also revealed that directors had criticised his technique for being 'too creepy'.
Penn told the Stitcher's Podcrushed podcast: "I've always gotten the note to make it less creepy.
"They say like, 'Close your eyes or go faster or go slower.'
"I'm like, 'What? This man is f***ing murder people, and he's masturbating in the street.
"You're saying I'm making it creepy? How is it I'm the one making it creepy?!'"
Adding that he had been repeatedly critiqued for 'keeping his eyes open' while feigning masturbation, Penn also described the scenes as "strange".
He added: "It's a strange—you don't think it's going to be that big of a deal.
"And then you discover in front of a crew of people with a camera on your face, knowing that, in all likelihood, millions of people are going to see this, you're simulating masturbation."
You season four began filming earlier this year.
The series will pick up after the shocking death of Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) in the season three finale.
A number of British stars including Tilly Keeper and Amy Leigh Hickman have been cast in the fourth series, which is currently shooting in London.
