Owen Longford is set to become quite the problem for killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) in upcoming episodes of Coronation Street.
And there is speculation from fans that the businessman could fall pray to his dark desires as Owen takes over Underworld amid its sale, and plans to sack the serial murderer.
What’s more, he’s also romantically involved with Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews), who Stephen just so happens to have his eye on despite being engaged to Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox).
As it looks like Owen could become a victim of Stephen’s, many have been left wondering just who the character is and who plays him? It turns out, he’s no stranger to the soap.
Here’s what you need to know.
Who is Owen Longford?
Owen entered the soap earlier this year and has already made quite the impact.
The character is a representative of an American distribution company that showed an interest in Underworld’s Nippersnapper range.
Arriving in the UK with Angelique Simmons (Lauren Carse), he was first seen onscreen attending a meeting with Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) about the products.
However, Stephen, Underworld’s former manager, interrupted the meeting and declined their offer, asking for a higher figure.
Luckily for Stephen the pair accepted, leading Sarah to insist that Underworld owner Carla Barlow (Alison King) give Stephen his job back – something that she would come to regret after he laced her tea with LSD.
Owen and Angelique left, only to return a few episodes later after Stephen’s killing spree escalated as he was blackmailed by Rufus Donohue (Steve Meo) who discovered he had been spiking Carla.
Stephen showed the duo around Underworld, later going for celebratory drinks over a second order of products where Owen caught the eye of Rover’s Return landlady Jenny.
Stephen went on to falsely warn Jenny of Owen’s ‘sleazy past,’ though this didn’t work as the pair became an item.
Who plays Owen Longford?
Owen is portrayed by Ben Hull, an actor who hails from Hitchin.
Hull, 50, is no stranger to Coronation Street after appearing in an earlier role in the soap.
In November 1995 he starred in the role of Mark Lacey, a business associate who met with Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and Vicky McDonald (Irene Hervey) at Mojo Casino.
He has also appeared in the likes of Hollyoaks, Brookside, Holby City, Doctors and Casualty.
Aside from the world of soaps, Hull has also had roles in Revelations, Children’s Ward, Family Affairs, The Royal Today, and Crime Stories.
He has also hit the stage in shows such as Four Nights in Knaresborough, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Dead Funny, About Alice and Noises Off.
