The Pact makes its debut on BBC One on May 17 and it will air across six episodes. The TV crime drama is based on a group of friends and colleagues who are forced to keep a secret surrounding a tragic death. Express.co.uk spoke to the cast about where the series is filmed and set.

Where is The Pact set?

The Pact is set in the present day in Wales, and the story takes place around a picturesque brewery in The Valleys.

The quaint area suddenly becomes the location for a tragic death as brewery boss Jack (played by Aneurin Barnard) is found in the woods.

His employees Anna (Laura Fraser), Nancy (Julie Hesmondhalgh), Louie (Eiry Thomas) and Cat (Heledd Gwynn) all know more than they care to let on.

The close-knit group of friends are all forced into a pact of silence that will test their friendship to the limit.

Their secret is also under threat of being revealed as Anna’s police officer husband, Max (Jason Hughes), is on the case.

There are others who are suspicious of the colleagues, including brewery worker Tish (Abbie Hern).

The women each face a moral dilemma as they are forced to choose between what is right, and what will keep them safe.

Jack’s estranged father Arwel (Eddie Marsan) also features in the series as he struggles to hide dark family secrets.

Fans will be left on the edge of their seats as the episodes, which will air over the course of three weeks, give insight into who was responsible for Jack’s death.

Express.co.uk spoke to the cast of the crime drama about the setting and filming locations.

Where is The Pact filmed?

The series was filmed across various locations in Wales, which has since become a popular filming location for new dramas.

Keeping Faith is another popular drama that is based predominantly in Wales, and it is a huge hit.

The creator of The Pact, Pete McTighe, spoke to Express.co.uk and other media about why he chose Wales as the location.

He said: “I live in Cardiff, I moved there about five years ago and I love it. I didn’t feel like I was seeing enough drama on screen that reflects what Wales can offer.

“I just want to make more there because of the people, and the amazing scenery.”

Nancy actress Hesmondhalgh said Wales also holds a place in her heart, and she fell in love with the area even more.

She said: “The brewery is set in The Valleys, in the big pits, it’s a beautiful brewery which was really lovely to film in, surrounded by the most extraordinary countryside.

“All the locations we filmed in were just beautiful, we filmed in Merthyr and Monmouth.

“I love Wales, I got married in Wales, it’s a very special place for me and we go there for our holidays.

“It was a bit of a magical time and one I will hold in my heart forever.”

Filming took place amid the coronavirus pandemic and a number of strict restrictions were in place.

The cast and crew both said it was important that everyone still enjoyed the experience, despite the tough restrictions.

McTighe said: “Shooting these episodes during the autumn and winter of 2020 was extremely challenging for all of us but we had an exceptional cast and crew – like none I’ve ever worked with before – who pulled together in extraordinary circumstances, under strict safety protocols, to bring this story to screen.

“I’m really proud of the resulting six episodes which are a testament to their hard work, faith and talent.”

The Pact starts on BBC One on Monday, May 17.
