We still can't accept that's really Colin Farrell as Penguin on The Batman set

It has been confirmed that yes, that was Colin Farrell playing the Penguin in The Batman trailer – so why can we still not fathom that’s actually him under those prosthetics?

The 44-year-old has been pictured on the set of The Batman in Liverpool, and we sense a best make-up Oscar winging its way towards the crew in 2023.

Farrell’s full transformation into Oswald Cobblepot was laid bare as he prepared for filming in the UK, and looked entirely unrecognisable beneath his extensive make-up and prosthetics.

The Irish actor sported thinning black hair and scarred and pockmarked skin, while he wore a long black leather coat over a purple shirt and a tie and donned a large gold and ruby ring on his left hand.

Of course, he also carried the Penguin’s famous umbrella – and while this gritty reboot shows the Cobblepot before he became the out-and-out villain we all know, we wouldn’t be surprised if there was a rifle hidden in there.

Farrell was joined on set by Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz, who play Batman and Catwoman respectively on the Matt Reeves film.

Pattinson – who has returned to work after recovering from coronavirus – looked typically moody in a dark overcoat over a suit and tie.

But the boys were outshone by Kravitz, who was in full glam to play Selina Kyle.

The 31-year-old looked chic in a black patent leather trench coat, which was paired with a matching headpiece, fishnets and knee-high leather boots.

Catwoman, serving looks as always.

The actress was seen linking arms with John Turturro, who plays Gotham crime lord Carmine Falcone, as the stars appeared to be shooting some sort of funeral scene.

These set pictures are just getting us more hyped for The Batman, even if we will have to wait a pretty long time for it to hit the big screen.

The first trailer for the superhero film dropped at the DC FanDome event in August and filming resumed in September, after shutting down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, just days later, production was shut down again after Pattinson tested positive for Covid-19.

Thankfully, everyone is safe and back on set, but the release date has been pushed back from June 2021, to October 2021, to March 2022.

Plenty of time to work on your Selina Kyle cosplay.

The Batman marks Twilight star Pattinson’s first outing as Bruce Wayne, after taking over from Ben Affleck, who stepped down from the project in January 2019.

The film also stars Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Batman’s loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth.

Speaking about the film at the DC FanDome event, director Reeves said: ‘It’s about the early days of him being Batman and he’s very far from being perfect.

‘One of the things that are interesting is learning how to be Batman. It’s a criminological experiment. He’s trying to figure out what he can do to change this place. He’s seeing he’s not having any of the effects he wants to have. That’s when the murders start to happen … and it opens up a whole new world of corruption. Without being an origin tale, it ends up touching on his origins.

‘It’s a detective story, a mystery, it’s got, of course, action, and it’s incredibly personal for him. He’s kind of a growing legend and [criminals] are afraid of him. He’s not a symbol of hope yet. One of the things he has to deal with is how he’s perceived … What was exciting for me was not doing the origin [story] but to meet him in the middle and to see him make mistakes and grow and fail and be heroic in a way that felt very human and very flawed.’

The Batman is scheduled for release on March 4, 2022.
