Unlikely duo Maggie Rhee (played by Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will be teaming up again for just one of The Walking Dead’s upcoming spin-offs, Dead City. Set for release on AMC next spring, a short teaser trailer has been met with backlash from some viewers keen to let the series stay dead and buried.

A brand new teaser trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City has been met with backlash from viewers who believe the series should have already concluded.

The upcoming spin-off will pick up after the mainline drama’s series finale, which wrapped up the action after 11 seasons.

Although the original series will no longer continue, many of the fans’ favourite characters have split off and will lead their own miniseries.

Maggie and Negan are the first up, continuing their unconventional partnership for a six-part drama airing next April.

Dead City’s first teaser trailer has promised plenty of thrills and more zombie variants. Still, viewers are struggling to muster up the same level of enthusiasm they had for the original series.

When the trailer was posted on YouTube, user Dinoforce commented: “It’s time to let the dead rest. Sorry AMC, time for a new approach.”

Brian Garrigan said: “I have a feeling the public is burned out on zombie shows.”

To which Sascha Herrmann replied: “Burnt out on the never-ending Walking Dead shows.”

“It’s not that interesting to fill so many c****y spin-offs. They should just stop milking that old cow and let it go…”

Reddit user Stampbearpig demanded: “Just let it die already. It could have been remembered as something great, now it’s trash.”

G8kpr said: “Meh. This trailer basically told me ‘hey, remember that awful show you once liked?

“‘Well here’s an even more awful spin-off… it’ll suck even more because we long ago ran out of ideas.”

User hoxxxxx added: “I’m done with it, I just wanted to see how it ended. Absolutely not watching any of these other shows.”

An official synopsis for Dead City reads: “Set two years after the main show’s finale, the six-episode spinoff series – which will likely debut in April 2023 – is centred on Maggie and Negan.

“These characters have long been at odds with one another, since Negan joined the show and brutally murdered Maggie’s husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun).

“Ever since Negan became one of the good guys, the two have been able to work well enough together – surprisingly – that they are now starring side-by-side in Dead City.”

“The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.”

While some fans are still excited to see how Maggie and Negan’s battle against the undead in New York pans out, many others are clearly fed up with the series after more than a decade on screens.

However, if Dead City isn’t to their liking, AMC still has shows centred on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and former regulars Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) to look forward to.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere in April, 2023 on AMC.
