Chris Harrison announced to the world on June 8 that he would not be returning to The Bachelor franchise. The host was part of the ABC reality dating show since its debut in 2002. He hosted The Bachelor and its many spinoffs on the network. Here’s how Bachelor Nation reacted to Harrison’s announcement.
Why did Chris Harrison leave ‘The Bachelor’?
Harrison originally left The Bachelor after he defended Matt James’ contestant Rachael Kirkconnell. The host had a conversation with Rachel Lindsay about James’ season, and was apologetic on Kirkconnell’s behalf for her resurfaced social media posts.
He stepped down as host, seemingly temporarily. Emmanuel Acho stepped in as host on The Bachelor: After the Final Rose, raising important questions about race in the franchise. But Acho’s hosting wasn’t made permanent by the franchise, and Harrison’s hosting status remained unclear. That is until Harrison made things official by announcing his departure on June 8.
Contestants from ‘The Bachelor’ and ‘The Bachelorette’ reacted to news of Chris Harrison leaving the franchise
Contestants from Bachelor Nation came out to show support for Harrison and show messages of love to the former host. Former bachelor Sean Lowe commented: “It will never be the same. Love you buddy.”
The Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, and The Bachelor Winter Games contestant Ashley Iaconetti also expressed a message to Harrison in his comments.
Iaconetti wrote: “It will never be the same. Truly the end of an era. Thank you for all the years of hard work and love you put into the show. I have a lump in my throat writing this. Can’t wait to see your next move. I love you.”
Former bachelorette and Dancing with the Stars winner Kaitlyn Bristowe also left a comment: “You are truly irreplaceable as a host, thank you for all the years you put into this show and making it what it is. No one does it quite like Mr. Chris Harrison.”
“Wishing you the best in your next chapters, Chris,” Becca Kufrin added. “So much love.”
Peter Weber, who was the lead of The Bachelor before James’ season shared a sentiment as well.
“Legend right here,” Weber wrote. “Truly appreciate your friendship my man. Thank you for everything! You’ve made an impact on so many. Much love.”
Many of the contestants who were critical of Harrison amidst his defense of Kirkconnell were missing in the comments section of the post.
Who are the new hosts instead of Chris Harrison?
After Acho took Harrison’s role for The Bachelor: After the Final Rose, former bachelorettes Bristowe and Tayshia Adams were next up to fill in for the former host. Fans thought the two were a refreshing addition to The Bachelorette on Katie Thurston’s premiere episode. Throughout the first night, Thurston confided in Bristowe and Adams to share how she felt about the contestants on her show.
The Bachelorette is on ABC on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST.
