Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice was left feeling very emotional on Saturday night after achieving a historic score with his celebrity dance partner Rose Ayling-Ellis. The pair earned a score of 40 from the judges in Week Six, the earliest the top mark has ever been awarded in the competition. Giovanni became tearful as soon as the judges’ scores came in.
Rose and Giovanni performed a thrilling tango to Ed Sheeran’s new track Shivers for Halloween Week on Strictly.
They gained high praise from the judges for the dramatic routine, but were still shocked when their top score came in.
After the pair had finished their performance, Strictly host Claudia quizzed them about the dance.
The presenter asked Rose how much she enjoyed portraying a villainous character for the routine.
The EastEnders actress said: “I rarely get to be evil, so it’s nice to bring out all the evil that I never get a chance to be evil.
“It all came out in that dance,” Rose remarked.
When Claudia handed over to the judges for their marks, Craig Revel-Horwood was first to score the couple and gave them a 10.
Giovanni and Rose instantly leapt into the air screaming and shouting with excitement.
Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, and Anton Du Beke all followed suit each giving the couple a score of 10.
“We got 40!” Rose exclaimed, after all the judges had revealed their marks for the performance.
Claudia congratulated the soap star on the historic score: “Rose well done. Well done.
“Oh my goodness, we have never had a 40 that early in the competition and that is you Rose, that is you and you Giovanni,” she added.
“The king of Halloween!” Rose exclaimed.
“He is the king of Halloween,” Claudia agreed. “He’s also in tears which is problematic with that eyeliner on.
“Well done to both of you,” the presenter added, before informing viewers of how they could vote to keep the dance duo in the competition.
“How happy are you two?” Claudia asked, seeing how emotional Giovanni was becoming.
“Very, very happy, very,” Giovanni replied, as he gave Rose a hug.
As the competition heats up, fans have been speculating about which star may win the series.
It looks as though Rose is a popular choice to be crowned Strictly Champion, as bookmakers Ladbrokes currently have her with odds of 2/5 to take home the Glitterball Trophy.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Rose has headed the betting for a few weeks now and tonight’s perfect score has seen her pull even further away in the race for this year’s Glitterball Trophy.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues Sunday at 7pm on BBC One.
