Despite the challenge, actor Cary Elwes, who lands a role in the upcoming sequel, praises Chris McQuarrie for managing to get it done after he was contact-traced to COVID patient.
AceShowbiz -It’s no secret that the production of “Mission: Impossible VII” faced a series of setbacks due to multiple COVID-19 positive tests on the set. While filming eventually wrapped in September, it is now revealed the biggest challenge that they faced during the shooting.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Cary Elwes divulged that director Chris McQuarrie had to film some scenes from home due to COVID exposure. “I don’t think I am saying anything new when I say that the production had some difficulties and they had to shut down,” he shared. “So Chris McQuarrie had to direct from his computer at home because he had been contact-traced.”
Instead of seeing it as an obstacle, Elwes thought “that is a testament to how brilliant he is, that he was able to do it.” He went on saying of the helmer, “He said, ‘Look, I never want to do it again’ – but he managed it.”
Having managed to get “it done,” the British actor, who lands an undisclosed role in the seventh installment of the action film franchise, gushed about the upcoming movie, “And it is going to be the biggest ‘Mission’ of them all, there is no question about it. No question.”
Tom Cruise, who reprises his role as Ethan Hunt and serves as producer for “Mission: Impossible 7”, implemented strict protocols on the set to ensure the safety of the cast and crew during production. Back in 2020, leaked audio revealed he went on a rant after several crew members ignored the protocols.
Nevertheless, the filming had been hit by a number of delays due to positive test results. That reportedly caused Paramount Pictures to suffer significant losses and damages which the company has sought to compensate from insurance policy.
The delays have also caused the film’s release date to be pushed back several times. Most recently, it was announced that the movie will hit theaters on September 30, 2022 after previously being set for a May 27, 2022 release.
