In a recent episode of Homes Under the Hammer, property expert Martin Roberts welcomed guest Dianna onto the BBC show to talk about her latest property purchases. Dianna revealed she’d spent £67,000 at auction, but had mistakenly purchased two flats after not fully paying attention to the auction catalogues. Martin struggled to hide his amusement when he questioned Dianna about her mistake.
Wellbeing coach and coffee shop owner Dianna appeared on a recent episode of Homes Under the Hammer with plans to buying two flats.
However, she made a big mistake at the auction and bought the wrong flats by accident.
Puzzled as to how this could happen, Martin questioned Dianna on her error: “Sorry, you bought the wrong flat? How did that happen?”
Dianna replied: “I don’t know. I’ve been asking myself the same thing since. Anyway, they are great flats.”
Martin made it clear he wanted more of an explanation, saying: “No, no, no you’re not getting away with that. Let’s go through this process.”
Dianna explained that she was initially looking at purchasing a Methodist church, but when someone outbid her at the auction she turned her eye to some flats.
She continued: “So, I looked through the brochure and I thought, ‘Oh they’re nice flats in Clay Cross. I quite like them.’”
“I’d seen them up for sale. So, I thought, ‘I’ll have them they’re alright. That’ll be a good project for me,’” Dianna said.
Martin quizzed her further: “So, you sign the paperwork for the auction. I presume you didn’t read the legal pack?”
Dianna revealed she had read some paperwork, but it was for a different set of flats.
Martin said: “Of course you haven’t seen them? But, you thought you had seen them – you thought they were the other ones.”
“I’ll let you off that you’ve not seen the property before because you thought you had,” he added.
“At what point did you realise you hadn’t bought the flats that you thought you’d bought?” Martin asked.
“I told my husband and family and pointed out the flats that I thought we’d bought with the no windows which are two doors down. Then I met the guy from the auction and we came into this flat,” Dianna responded.
Martin asked: “One small point. Was there a picture of the flats in the catalogue?”
Looking slightly embarrassed, Dianna confessed: “I didn’t have my glasses on!”
Martin exclaimed: “You didn’t have your glasses on – of course not!”.
After spending £67,000 at auction, Dianna is making the best of her blunder and revealed her plans to spend a few hundred pounds on new flooring at the property.
Many viewers took to social media to express their thoughts on Dianna’s unusual error.
One Twitter user posted: “A lady on Homes Under the Hammer bought two flats by mistake because she was disappointed at losing out on a Methodist church (?!) and bought what she thought was a different property for sale on the same road to help her cope with her son being a rally driver. I LOVE IT!”
Homes Under the Hammer airs on BBC One on weekdays at 10am.
