Maisie Smith shares exciting career move after quitting EastEnders Tiffany role

Maisie Smith has shared the next role she will be starring in, since leaving EastEnders in December.

The 20-year-old left her role as Tiffany Butcher on the BBC One soap to pursue new professional opportunities.

Now, Maisie is joining forces with Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton once again, after the duo danced together in the Children in Need special in 2019.

The soap actress also took part in the eighteenth series of the main BBC One competition in 2020 alongside Gorka Márquez where she finished as runner-up.

The TV star is reuniting with her Strictly co-stars, Kevin and Craig Revel Horwood, to return to a different kind of dance floor.

The Strictly judge is directing a new stage show titled, Strictly Ballroom: the musical tour, which is based on the film.

On Wednesday (25 May) Maisie confirmed that she will be performing in the show alongside Kevin, when she made a surprise appearance on Lorraine.

Kevin spoke with Lorraine Kelly about the Strictly musical and how the initial rehearsals have been going with notoriously difficult judge, Craig.

The professional dancer then teased who his co-star would be, before Maisie walked out and joined him on the sofa.

The shock reveal saw an excited Maisie fill Lorraine in with all the details of this new project.

She began: "It's brilliant. Obviously we met a couple of years ago. I started my brief Strictly journey with you so it is only fitting we get to continue it now."

The star also reflected on the whirlwind few years she’s had appearing on Strictly and the Strictly tour as well as leaving Albert Square for good.

"It is a blur, it's just pre-Covid in my eyes,” she added.

After 14 years, Maisie left EastEnders in December, before making a brief cameo in March to help with Keegan’s (Zack Morris) exit from the show.

Fans were left emotional and declared it was the “perfect ending” to the stars time on the soap.

Strictly Come Dancing has also seen a change in the past few days, as it was announced that Anton Du Beke will return as a judge on the show for the next series and more.

It comes after it was confirmed that Bruno Tonioli has stepped back from his role, after missing the previous season in 2021 due to Covid-19 travel related restriction as he appeared as a judge on the US show Dancing with the Stars.

On The One Show, Bruno admitted he would miss the show after being part of the Strictly family for 18 years.

"I miss it so much," the 66 year old revealed, "Because of the travel situation I cannot guarantee I’m going to be there."

However, there was no bad blood between the long-time co-stars, as Bruno wished Anton the best as he admitted it was his decision to leave the show.

"Anton you've done a fantastic job, you deserve it," he continued, before he held up a 10 point score paddle and added: "It's a 10 from me, carry on. Do me proud, but you've already done it anyway."
