Loose Women fans cringe as Janet tells Coleen vegan diet ‘won’t stop cancer’

Loose Women viewers were cringing as a spat broke out between Coleen Nolan and Janet Street Porter.

Coleen was discussing her new vegan diet on the panel show on Tuesday, which she revealed has helped her to lose weight and get healthier.

But Janet Street Porter wasn’t convinced, and argued: "It’s not gonna stop you, god forbid, from getting cancer."

And it appeared the dig was too much for Coleen, as she frowned wordlessly at Janet.

She eventually muttered: "I’d advise you to watch the programmes", referring to TV shows that had convinced her to make the leap from vegetarianism to veganism.

Later, during a discussion about chronic pain, Coleen snidely remarked: "Since I’ve changed my diet it’s been a bit better, and that’s all I’m saying."

She revealed she had been suffering with pain in her sciatic nerve.

But the spat came at a tense time for Coleen, after her sister Linda was diagnosed with incurable liver cancer last year.

Her sister Anne was also diagnosed with stage three breast cancer last year, but thankfully she is now cancer-free.

Viewers weren't impressed, and took to Twitter to share their disgruntlement at the segment.

"Ffs Janet the woman's made a positive change to her life and you're saying she's probably gonna get cancer anyway," one wrote.

Another posted: "Janet pedalling backwards, quickly. Hahaha."

Someone else slammed Coleen for her views on veganism, writing: "Coleen the health expert now."

But others were desperate to find out what programmes she was referring to, writing: "Great to see Coleen back in the studio looking fantastic and especially happy that you're following a vegan lifestyle. Really interested in what program you watched which changed you from vegetarian to vegan."

"Well done on looking and feeling great by adopting a vegan diet!" another congratulated.

Detailing her new diet, Coleen reflected that she hadn't intended to lose weight – it had just happened as a side effect of healthy eating.

"I'm eating to live rather than living to eat now," she told the Loose Women.

"I've trained my tastebuds and gotten used to it."

It was her first time back in the studio after being relegated to chatting via video call due to pandemic restrictions – but now a new set and the easing of rules means four panelists can once again appear in the studio.

Later in the episode, Janet was forced to deny her phone was going off in an awkward live blunder.

A strange sound could be heard in the studio, as Janet said: "What is that noise? No, it's not my phone!"

She continued: "I've got the director yelling in my ear!"
