Line Of Duty fans were on the edge of their seats in the opening moments of Sunday's episode, as they waited to see who was the victim of last week's chilling shoot out.

DCI Jo Davidson (played by Kelly Macdonald), Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper) and DI Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) were at risk of getting killed off, with the episode ending on a cliffhanger.

This week, it was revealed someone had shot the crooked Ryan twice in the chest, leaving him for dead before fleeing the scene with Jo.

However, watching the big reveal from home, viewers couldn't understand why Kate and Jo had left the crime scene, as it made them look guilty.

The rest of AC-12 managed to track them down and cornered them after a car chase, forcing them into the back of squad cars.

It looked as though Kate – who was convinced she had been framed – was at risk of doing time behind bars, leaving many to wonder why she had left the crime scene in the first place.

One Twitter user wrote: "So happy kates ok but why the f did she leave the crime scene??? Her and Davidson know it would look dodgy??"

"If it was Kate that shot him why would she run?! It must have been Jo surely?! #LineofDuty," added a second.

And a third penned: "Why did Kate & Jo leave the scene of the shooting !!!"

"Why did they just leave the body?" wondered a fourth.

Realising Kate's car was nowhere to be seen, Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) said: "Kate’s car is missing."

DCI Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin) then assumed Kate was crooked, remarking: "Given her OCG links I think we have to assume she and Davidson are associates of the likely shooter."

Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) then pleaded Kate's case, pointing out: "DI Fleming was authorised to carry a concealed firearm for own protection."

Later, during the investigation, Jo explained why she and Kate had left the scene of crime, explaining it was an attempt to prove her innocence.
