The Last Kingdom is on Netflix now and the series, based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, has been renewed for season five. The series tells the story of the unification of England as one country, and it stars Uhtred as the ‘Dane slayer’. Fans felt Uhtred’s friend Sihtric (Arnas Fedaravičius) only played a minor role in season four, and they are wondering whether he will leave in the next season.
Will Sihtric leave The Last Kingdom season 5?
The Last Kingdom is a popular historical drama series which follows Uhtred, who was born a Saxon but was raised by Danes after his father was killed in battle.
Uhtred came across Sihtric, who had been abandoned by his own father, and he agreed to let Sihtric follow him.
Across the series, Sihtric and Uhtred become close friends, along with Uhtred’s men Finan (Mark Rowley) and Osferth (Ewan Mitchell).
Sihtric had left behind his wife and child to join Uhtred on his journey and has sworn his loyalty to him, living to protect him at all costs.
Although Sihtric is considered to be one of the most important characters in the series, fans are worried his character is slowly being written out as they feel he did not have many lines in season four.
They took to Reddit to discuss Sihtric’s role in the series, with LazyCouchG3mer saying: “Sihtric & Osferth – Wtf is with the lack of lines/scenes from these two in S4? “If the show explored them a bit more it would make the dynamic of the group so much more. They only contribute witty jokes and sly looks now, GIVE THEM MORE LINES TLK!”
Other fans pointed out how there are not enough episodes per season in order to fully develop the characters, with season four consisting of 10 episodes.
TheAdlerian added: “Yes, double the episodes would be great. There’s plenty of story to tell and the show goes so fast. They would be rewarded for the extra shows since we would certainly watch.”
Another fan said he “better get more lines in season five”, but others do not consider him to be one of the main characters in the series.
In an interview with The Screen Chronicles, the hosts said they had feared Sihtric or one of his friends may have died in season four.
Fedaravičius responded by saying he plans for his character’s death with every new season, and it could come at any time.
There is a chance he may leave the series soon, as he would like to see his wife and child again. So he may abandon Uhtred and the rest of the group to rejoin his family.
Commenting on Sihtric’s role in season four, tasosioa said on Reddit: “Why is he around? After 10 episodes I don’t remember him having any character development or even any dialogue. He seems to get in battles for no reward.”
In season four Sihtric helped Uhtred when he returned to his homeland of Bebbanburg in an attempt to claim back his homeland. He also helped keep Uhtred and Aethelflaed’s children safe from Danes.
At the end of the season, he fought alongside Uhtred in Winchester, during Sigtryggr’s (Eysteinn Sigurðarson) siege, but he did not have many lines throughout the season.

Recent-Study said: “I wish they gave him more dialogue. Especially would like to see more banter between the trio of Uhtred, Finan, and Sihtric!”
Viewers have stressed the importance of his character in the series, even if he only has a minor role. Reconlabtech said: “He is the man on the left to Finan’s man on the right.
“I find it very satisfying just knowing he is there by Uhtred’s side through the big changes in this season. He is an anchor in a very rocky period of time.”
Sihtric’s character survives in The Saxon Stories, so hopefully he will not be killed off in season five.
Frustrated_queen said: “I just wish they give him more lines or exposure. I feel like he could be a character as good as Finnan. Or he is like that in even in the books?”
Some fans have pointed out how he has even fewer lines in the books, especially as Uhtred’s son, Young Uhtred (Finn Elliot) joins the group and takes prominence.
Fans were worried he was going to be killed off when Haesten (Jeppe Beck Laursen) and his men hung him and his friends upside down from trees.
Ledgendofpoppa said: |I thought we’d see the warrior in him after the hanging moment, when he fought that guy. It was unfortunate they wrote it to where he needed help. I understand the argument that he could have still been disoriented from being upside down but … come on.”
Lkj2429 responded: “I was on the edge of my seat at that one. I thought they were going to kill him off. I was literally shouting at the tv. He deserves a warriors death. Not hanging upside down in a tree.”
Some viewers have said the writers of the show have underestimated how charismatic Fedaravičius in the role, and they are worried he will not be given the chance to shine.
There is no knowing how many seasons the series will run for, but there are still plenty of books to draw inspiration from, so hopefully Sihtric will be around for a while longer.
Season five will draw on the events of Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer.
