Kate Garraway, 54, and Richard Bacon, 46, hosted Friday’s festive instalment of Good Morning Britain to update ITV viewers on the latest headlines. Kate opted to wear a glittering gold dress with matching shoes for the Christmas Eve episode and was left horrified as Richard was wearing hotel slippers and cargo shorts. She scolded her co-host for “letting the side down” as she’d made a massive effort with her attire.

While the hosts were updating ITV viewers on the Christmas Eve headlines, Kate was left horrified after Richard’s wardrobe malfunction was exposed.

His army shorts and slippers were revealed to viewers when the host stood up to explain how to scan a QR code to donate to charity.

Following the blunder, Kate fumed: “You got up and showed everyone how to pledge and you didn’t remember that you hadn’t dressed from the bottom down.

“I go to all this effort – I’ve got matching shoes and I’ve got everything going and he lets the side down.”

The Good Morning Britain host then got the crew to replay the unexpected moment where Richard’s unusual outfit was revealed to viewers.

She added: “So he gets up to do the worthy thing and explain how the QR code works so people can get involved, pledge and get the total to 175 million minutes and he didn’t even wear proper shoes.”

Looking back at the clip, Kate gasped: “Are they hotel slippers?”

Richard explained: “Yes they are, I’ve been living in a hotel this week.

“Do you notice how undignified you walk when you wear those hotel slippers?”

Kate replied: “They are not easy, are they? They are a bit stumbly.”

Richard quipped: “They are not easy at all. Well, I shall put some trousers on a little bit later.”

Kate interjected: “Will you now? Because it’s chilly outside!”

Later on, Richard decided it was a good idea to get changed into a full suit, complete with appropriate shoes and Christmas socks.

She showed ITV viewers his trousers and shoes as he lifted his leg over the news desk to prove he’d changed his outfit.

However, viewers flocked to social media to comment on wardrobe malfunction, with Janet Finch tweeting: “Is it just me or does he need a bigger pair of slippers they really don’t look comfy?”

Karen added: “Oh no Richard Bacon. No, no no @GMB, Christmas’ Eve – surely we deserve better.”

While Richard did receive backlash for his slippers and shorts combination, many viewers praised the host for wearing comfy clothes.

Jules commented: “Merry Christmas! Trousers are overrated, comfort all the way.”

Clare Boylan added: “Brilliant Richard… Wear what you want!”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV between 6am and 9am.
