Strictly Come Dancing fans have seen Karen Hauer and her partner Jamie Laing storm up the leaderboard after beginning week one by landing at the bottom of the bunch of stars. Last weekend, viewers saw the pair dance a Couple’s Choice Street routine which went down a storm with the judges who handed them out a near-perfect 29 points. Speaking to Zoe Ball on It Takes Two, Karen revealed this is the first time in her nine-year stint on the show she has topped the leaderboard.
The Made in Chelsea star was originally part of last year’s line-up before having to pull out with a foot injury before his first performance.
Luckily, he was invited back for this year’s series and is fast becoming a contender to win the title.
Fans have seen Jamie grow in confidence and ability each week since the series began back in October.
Last weekend, he and Karen were awarded their first 10s of the competition – which put them right to the top of the leaderboard.
But what might be a surprise to fans is this was Karen’s first time at topping the leaderboard in her nine years.
The professional has been a part of some fantastic pairings on the show over the years but has never made it to the top spot before series 18.
Speaking earlier this week on It Takes Two, Karen spoke out on her success with her current partner Jamie.
Zoe said to Jamie: “But I have to say, Anton [Du Beke] said you know, you’re dancing with the best, he’s absolutely right.
Jamie quickly agreed with the host, saying: “Absolutely true.”
Zoe continued: “The partnership is amazing and scores are just unbelievably – two tens and a nine.
“When you see that, I mean it’s like your head exploded!”
Karen went on to make the surprise admission: “I’m not going to lie, it took me nine years to top the leaderboard, ever.”

“It took Jamie five weeks!” Karen remarked, with her partner joking: “Welcome to the big leagues baby, that’s what happens when you dance with the best!”
Their comments led Zoe to add: “I love you both so, so much!”
Fans have grown to love the duo after they’ve brought a tonne of joy and fun to the dance floor and have taken to Twitter to back the partnership.
One shared: “I’m so pleased Karen is getting her time to shine, so very well deserved. And as for Jamie, what an improvement every week – amazing!”
“This is my favourite partnership of this series. They are like two best friends having such a good time,” echoed another.
“I just love this friendship they are so funny together,” agreed a third.
The pair will be dancing the Tango this weekend to Tanguera by Sexteto Mayor and hoping to impress the panel once more.
But will they manage to hold onto the top spot or find themselves moved off by one of the other remaining couples?
Strictly Come Dancing continues on tonight at 7:15pm on BBC One.
