Jodie Whittaker wraps up shooting for Doctor Who ahead of explosive exit

Jodie Whittaker stepped aboard her trusty Tardis for one last time this week as she filmed her finalDoctor Whoscenes.

On Twitter, the programme’s social media team shared a snap of Jodie and co-star Mandip Gill with a Doctor Who clapperboard.

Captioning the post, they wrote: “That’s a wrap! Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill have finished filming."

The British actress became the 13th incarnation of The Doctor in 2017, as well as the first-ever female to play the part.

She picked up the mantle from Peter Capaldi in that year’s Christmas special episode, Twice Upon a Time.

But back in July, the 39-year-old announced she’s off to pastures new following the upcoming season, titled Flux, which is set to premiere at the end of October, and a series of 2022 specials.

With Jodie making her explosive exit from the long-running programme, it’s now time for someone else to assume the much-coveted role.

TheBBChave confirmed Russell T Davies is returning to replace Chris Chibnall as showrunner, but fans are yet to find out the identity of Doctor number 14.

The decision, Doctor Who bigwigs have promised, will be revealed “in due course”.

So, only a little further patience is required of fans unless they can find their own time-travel device.

The rumour mill has certainly been churning away, as it has a habit of doing in these moments, with a few interesting names being tossed in the air.

Word on the street is Jodie may well pass on the baton to The Haunting of Blyth Manor star T’Nia Miller.

The Londoner has already starred in the show as The General in a 2015 episode, so she’d be a wildcard – but stranger things have been known in TV land.

Another favourite touted is It’s a Sin's Olly Alexander, but his management have denied his involvement – deflection perhaps?

Whoever it is stepping in, they have some seriously large shoes to fill.

Jodie made for an excellent Doctor Who, successfully following in the footsteps of Peter Capaldi and his own predecessor Matt Smith.
