I’m A Celeb star Shane Richie’s ITV wage will help pay off debts caused by Covid

I'm A Celebrity and EastEnders star Shane Richie’s finances took a battering after he lost out on a monster panto pay day, as he revealed how lockdown had left him so skint that he had to borrow money from friends and family.

His company accounts show he was down to his last £4,000, having had more than £100,000 tucked away in coffers just a few years back.

The Alfie Moon star had been due to appear in Dick Whittington at the New Wimbledon Theatre in London over the festive period, which would have netted him a whopping £100k.

But the production has been called off due to the coronavirus pandemic and theatre-goers have been told the show will be staged from 4 December next year.

Shane will now pick up a similar-sized pay packet for this role on I'm A Celebrity, which will last around three weeks.

And the cash will come as a blessing to the production firm he runs with his wife, Christie.

Latest accounts for Bluebelle Syke Productions LTD show it has a bottom line of just £4,165.

Back in 2015, the firm had almost £110,000 in cash in its coffers.

He signed up for this year's show in January, but managed to keep it a secret until the line-up was announced over the weekend.

Shane revealed: "We were going to fit it around my other work as I was going on tour, doing a TV series and panto — but that all got cancelled in March.

"And now I am literally skint. You save money for a rainy day but you don't expect the rainy day to last six months.

"Thankfully I've been able to borrow money from mates, my family and the bank and my wife is now very happy we can finally pay off the credit card!"

Shane, who has three children with second wife Christie Goddard and two with ex-wife Coleen Nolan, said: "We got the call in January and I agreed to do it because it was the 20th one.

"My kids were old enough to travel to Australia and they wanted to meet Ant and Dec. We were all really excited."

But travel restrictions arising from the pandemic mean this year's show, which launches next Sunday, will be filmed in Gwrych Castle in Wales.

Now Shane hopes the show will get him to slim down for his next role.

He said: "Six hundred calories a day is like a slice of cake on a Sunday.

"But I have got to go straight back in the West End to play a drag queen in a dress and so I will look great!"

I'm A Celeb returns on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
