Hollyoaks star reveals how he turned to therapy over his 'dark' storyline | The Sun

ONE Hollyoaks star has revealed he had to seek therapy ahead of his upcoming storyline.

The actor, Angus Castle-Doughty, revealed that 'life imitating art' encouraged him to speak to a therapist in order to differentiate himself from his character.

Hunky Angus plays Eric Forster who will be invovled in a dark women-hating storyline, a first for the Channel 4 soap.

He opened up in a chat to the Mirror about the impact appearing on the soap and being invovled in this particularstoryline had on his mental health and his own life.

Angus' character Eric will find himself embroiled in the dark world of incels, whereby men crave sex and despise the women who deny it to them and share a mutiny of misogynistic thoughts in special online forums with other like-minded individuals.

He told the publication about the dark storyline: “Filming this scared the s*** out of me as there is a real problem out there. Boys can get sucked into a rabbit hole.

“An incel finds evidence to suit their argument. They believe their destiny is predetermined and it’s a toxic cycle that is difficult to get out of.

“We’ve seen Eric take a ‘black digital pill’ and remove himself from society. He is ready to radicalise himself.”

He also bravely admitted that he had sought therapy in order to keep himself on the right track after admitting parallels in his own life became 'blurred' with that of his character Eric.

He revealed that 'life' began to 'imitate art' when he found himself lonely after moving to Liverpool from London to work on the show.

Angus said: “I have been seeing a therapist every week.

“Within a couple of weeks of me moving to Liverpool to work on Hollyoaks, my girlfriend and I split up. I felt lonely in a new city and I was playing a character who is always lonely.

“The lines got blurred and it was a case of life imitating art.

“But I have so much gratitude to Hollyoaks, who have a great duty-of-care team and they gave me a therapist to see once a week. I can’t thank them enough.

“It’s been so helpful to talk to someone – especially during the filming of all the heavy stuff. Everyone can struggle from time to time and my brain felt frazzled, but I feel loads better now.

“I’ve also learned that when you move to a new place, it will take you six months to shed the London cynicism!”

Revealing how impressed he was that soap bosses had made the decision to tackle the plot, the star added: “Everyone needs to be aware of it. This isn’t an ‘other problem’. It’s an ‘us problem’. We don’t want to spook people but it’s good if we make people aware of it. My family are proud of me too.”

Following his break-up, it appears that Angus however has managed to find love again – with one of his co-stars!

29 year old hunk Angus confirmed a romance with co-star Niamh Blackshaw over the Christmas period.

The pair made their romance official in a sweet post uploaded to Niamh’s Instagram.

Niamh, who plays Juliet Nightingale on the soap, posted the romantic black & white snap – which shows the pair holding hands as Niamh poses into the camera while Angus, who stars dangerous Eric Foster,  gazes at her from the side.

She captioned it: “Happy New Year 💙 a year of growth, learning, kindness, loneliness, boundaries and acceptance. Ending in a better space than it began.”

Angus also confirmed the relationship in a reflective Twitter post.

The soap actor wrote: “2022 saw me move to the other side of the country, take the biggest step in my career, a relationship end and a relationship start. I also bought a sleeveless shirt… so every cloud.”
