Former Gogglebox star Steph Parker has recalled the moment she could have died from pneumonia after initially ignoring her symptoms.
Steph, who appeared on Gogglebox with her husband Dom, were fan favourites on the show because of their love for gin and for their hilarious one-liners.
Since leaving the show in 2016, the duo have gone on to take part in other TV projects including Hunted and Four in a Bed.
Speaking about her ‘scary’ ordeal to Well’s Pharmacist, Alex Zahorodnyj, Steph explained that she chose to ignore the ‘crackling’ on her chest as she didn’t have time to be poorly.
‘Interestingly, I didn’t have any symptoms and that is one of the scariest things really,’ she began.
‘I think the only thing, in hindsight now that gave it away, was a crackling on my chest when I was breathing out.
‘I took no notice as I had to get Christmas going because you know, children, Turkeys, haven’t got time to be sick.’
Steph went on to explain that she managed to get through Christmas, but when it came to Boxing Day, her symptoms had got dramatically worse.
‘I had to leave the table, go to bed, you know, headache, tired and for the next 12 hours the pneumonia just kicked in and it just reproduced itself so quickly,’ she continued.
‘I started getting delirious, by which point on Boxing Day, I was whipped into hospital.’
The 52-year-old was admitted to intensive care, which is where she stayed for 12 days.
Steph even developed an Endocarditis infection, which is inflammation of the heart’s inner lining, after contracting pneumonia.
‘It happened so quickly for me, that’s the biggest message I think for me to get across to people. There was very little I could do about it once it had started,’ she added.
‘I am still recovering, I spent 12 days in ICU, I then went up to the chest place for nearly a week and then I went somewhere else and then two days later came back with my Endocarditis infection of my heart as a result of the pneumonia.
‘My strength hasn’t returned, I tire very very quickly, but I haven’t been unwell since so my immune system is doing what it’s meant to be doing.’
Gogglebox airs on Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
