Gilmore Girls stars, Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham, spent seven seasons playing love interests, Luke Danes and Lorelai Gilmore. The show’s fans were thrilled to see the duo get married in the final episode of the Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Patterson and Graham have something in common other than their on-screen love affair. Neither had ever watched a single episode of the show that made them both stars until recently.
Scott Patterson is watching Gilmore Girls for the first time this year
Patterson revealed that he never watched the show that made him a household name. In the first episode of I Am All In, his podcast all about his time on Gilmore Girls, Patterson admitted that he had only watched the series to prepare for the podcast. He remembers plenty about filming the show but has actively avoided watching himself on a television screen.
During each episode of I Am All In Patterson, his special guests, and a team of producers discuss a single episode of Gilmore Girls and Patterson’s time on set. Episode one, focusing on the pilot episode, brought Yanic Truesdale to the microphone. Truesdale portrayed Michel Gerrard for all seven seasons of the series. In episode 2, Patterson chatted with Sally Struthers and Rose Abdoo about their time as guest stars. Struthers spent seven seasons playing Babette. Abdoo portrayed Gypsy in the original series and reprised the role in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Abdoo also played Emily Gilmore’s live-in maid, Berta, in the revival.
Lauren Graham only watched Gilmore Girls while writing her book
Graham never watched Gilmore Girls. The famed actor revealed that she’s uncomfortable watching her work and has made a habit of avoiding shows that she appears in. While penning her memoir, Talking as Fast as I Can, Graham sat down and watched the entire series for her fans.
She, like Patterson is doing now, offered her commentary and spin on each season. Graham noted that her least favorite moments included Rory Gilmore and Lorelai’s big fight in season 6. She argued that she didn’t feel like her character would have been so harsh on Rory. Graham still has not offered fans her commentary on Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. She hasn’t watched those episodes yet and doesn’t plan to do so anytime soon.
Would Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham reprise their roles one more time?
While Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was meant to be a stand-alone series, fans have been clamoring for more episodes ever since the revival’s November 2016 release. The further we get from the revival’s premiere, the less likely a second season seems. Still, not all hope is lost. Several key characters have made it clear that they’d be happy to return to Stars Hollow.
Both Graham and Patterson have stated that they are willing to return to the series. Graham even has a Gilmore Girls clause written into her contracts, so she won’t miss an opportunity to reprise her role. Patterson, who appeared to be on the fence about a second season several years ago, seems to be on board now. Patterson, on his podcast, said he believes that the fans deserve more episodes. Luke and Lorelai are ready to go again, but that doesn’t mean everyone is interested. Alexis Bledel, the actor who portrayed Rory, has been quiet about the potential of a second revival season. Admittedly, she hasn’t said no, yet.
