Emmerdale’s Isabel Hodgins has opened up on her character’s rape scene.
The star, who plays Victoria Barton in the much loved soap, was faced with one of her most challenging story lines yet.
And it seems she was concerned about the episode going out before the watershed.
When chatting on Loose Women, the actress spoke about her fears amid the brutal scene.
The 25-year-old said: ‘It felt like a big responsibility.
‘I knew there’s so many people out there who have lived it, and I wanted to make sure we told it right and it was done respectfully, but also people got it, and how horrendous it is.’
Talking about how Emmerdale airs before 9pm, she expressed the cast and crew had to carefully plan how to show the attack.
‘We had to negotiate that how we were going to do it,’ the star told the panelists: ‘A brutal horrendous attack but within the watershed.’
But it seems like they did the story arc justice, as Isabel has received copious amounts of praise.
She said: ‘It has been incredible. Survivors have got in touch saying, “wow” and “thank you for telling this so truthfully.”
‘That’s a pat on the back for Emmerdale, but it has been really nice and quite overwhelming.’
The actress, who has been on the show since she was 12-years-old, spoke about how the plot might affect her character in the long run.
After finding out Victoria was pregnant, it seemed the baby might have been terminated, however following much consideration, the expecting mum decided to keep her baby.
Isabel gushed: ‘I think it feels like it depends on the person and the case, be we set the story up on Emmerdale because she has wanted to be a mum, she wants a baby.
‘It might be this horrendous thing, but what she has wanted for so long has come out of it.’
