Emmerdale bosses promise ‘mind blowing stunts and heartbreak’ for ITV soaps 50th birthday

After the epic Christmas episodes, it's fair to say that ITV soap Emmerdale went out with a bang at the end of 2021 – figuratively and literally.

However, when we caught up with the show bosses to talk all things 2022, they confirmed that the drama will not be petering out any time soon.

In fact, with Emmerdale's 50th birthday coming up on 16 October, it's full steam ahead for the soap as they gear up for a "golden month of celebrations" which will see "mind blowing stunts, moments of heartbreak," and "secrets and lies revealed."

When pressed about how she would describe the next 12 months on Emmerdale, Executive Producer Jane Hudson laughed as she told OK! and other press that it will be "chaotic."

She explained: "Our 50th birthday is coming up at the end of the year on October 16. We're going to be having a golden month of celebration to mark our 50th and there are going to be mind blowing stunts, there are going to be moments of heartbreak and secrets and lies will be revealed."

Jane added: "It really is going to be the gift that keeps on giving and the party that no one is going to want to end."

Jane detailed plans for the run up to the show's 50th and explained: "Our 2022 is very much going to be building our stories for that golden month of celebrations."

She also promised that this year will be the "biggest year" Emmerdale has ever had and teased that they "already [have] great stuff planned for the build up."

She added: "There may be a wedding in the summer. We'll have to wait and see, but you might not guess who that is right now.

"Also, some really big things are going to happen within families that's going to test their strengths as couples and as parents. So there's a lot in store. We might see some old faces returning. We're not sure yet. We're still working on that. But there's a lot coming up."

Jane concluded: "Our goal is to really celebrate Emmerdale turning 50."
