Coronation Street has cast EastEnders and Family Affairs star Nicola Duffett in the role of Yasmeen Metcalfe’s (Shelley King) fellow prisoner Lucie, who will encourage her to stand up to her evil husband Geoff (Ian Bartholomew).
Best known for playing tragic Debbie Bates in EastEnders – the wife of Nigel who was devastatingly killed off in a car accident – Nicola has already filmed her first scenes and will appear from next week.
It’s a difficult week for Yasmeen who finds herself on the phone to Geoff after he steals Alya Nazir’s (Sair Khan) mobile and intercepts a call from her gran.
As Yasmeen is chilled to the bone to hear the familiar, manipulative voice of the monster who made her life hell, Geoff gets under her skin by having tha audacity to offer his forgiveness.
He also tells Yasmeen that he is prepared to drop the charges against her and when he heads to the police station to withdraw his statement, Yasmeen begins to wonder if he really has changed his ways.
Lucie pots that Yasmeen is wavering and offers a hand of support to her – before then offering her the use of a contraband mobile in the prison to contact Geoff and stand up to him.
A nervous Yasmeen eventually calls Geoff with Lucie’s words ringing in her ears but when she gets through, Geoff uses the opportunity to promise Yasmeen everything will be different if they get back together.
Will Yasmeen be brought back under his spell?
Nicola went on to star in Family Affairs as Cat MacKenzie between 1999 and 2005.
In 2015, she made a guest appearance in Corrie as a character named Mrs Bird.
