Coronation viewers applaud surreal appearance of childhood icon

Floella Benjamin with Sovereign’s Sceptre

Former children’s presenter-turned-singer, businesswoman, and politician Floella Benjamin landed a starring role in the proceedings.

The 73-year-old was tasked with carrying the Sovereign’s Sceptre ahead of King Charles’s arrival.

The peer was among more than 50 people chosen to play a role in the history-making service.

Baroness Benjamin’s appearance left viewers delighted as they reminisced about the part she played in their childhoods.

Others asked to join the proceedings were representatives from the military, orders of chivalry, and beyond.

The Baroness sported a regal red outfit complete with a red headpiece as she walked through the Abbey.

The former School Play host is part of the House of Lords, where she sits as Baroness Benjamin of Beckenham.

As they watched some of the familiar faces arriving, viewers beamed as they noticed Floella.

Many were instantly transported back to their childhoods by the presenter.
