Coronation Street fans gobsmacked as Davids son Max is replaced with new actor

Coronation Street viewers were left feeling rather baffled on Thursday night, after they noticed that David Platt's son Max Turner was being played by a completely different actor.

New to the famous Cobbles, actor Paddy Bever made his first appearance on the popular ITV soap taking on the part of the young school boy.

Paddy's character Max appeared during the school scenes on Thursday's episode, as Daniel Osbourne began his teaching placement – much to his dad Ken Barlow's delight.

However, things didn't exactly go smooth sailing for Daniel as Max proved himself to be a troublemaker while in his lessons.

Despite all he drama that was unfolding, viewers at home couldn't help but wonder where the old Max had gone.

Taking to Twitter, Corrie fans aired their thoughts.

One fan said: "Did I miss the episode of Corrie where Max inserts a coin into a fortune-teller machine called Zoltar and makes a wish to be 'big'."

Another commented: "Max has rocked up. Looking six years older and gaining a fantastic taste in trainers."

A third tweeted: "So Max has gone from a 14-year-old kid, to a 20-year-old adult in a few months. What's David been putting in that lad's orange juice?"

While a fourth viewer penned: "Quite like the new Max but will miss the old one seeing as how we’ve watched him grow up. You can tell it’s him though. Storming upstairs to sulk when he’s getting told off."

Actor Harry McDermott played the role of Max Turner in the long-running for the last 11 years.

But programme bosses previously announced that Max's role would be recast as they wanted to take the character into a different direction.

Discussing the modification in more detail, a spokesperson for the soap said: "We have all watched Harry grow up alongside Max Turner for the past 11 years and we want to thank him for everything he has brought to the character.

"It is always a difficult decision to recast a role and we look forward to following Harry's career as he continues with his acting studies and explores other opportunities. We wish him every success for the future."

Since being a part of the soap, Max has been involved in several hard-hitting storylines including the death of his mother Kylie Platt, the appearance of his twisted biological father Callum Turner, being diagnosed with ADHD diagnosis, and the constant clashes with his step-dad David.

On Friday's episode of Corrie, David will grow increasingly concerned about Max, as he appears to totally disregard his education.

After Daniel's best attempts to help Max with his school work, David will ask Daniel for extra help.

But due to Max's abhorrent behaviour that viewers witnessed on Thursday, Daniel isn't too keen.
