Erin Reagan (played by Bridget Moynahan) is already facing an uphill battle to become district attorney thanks to the efforts of current DA Kimberly Crawford (Rosyln Ruff) to jeopardise her campaign. When Blue Bloods returns for its next episode on CBS in December, she could be facing even more challenges after Sophia Abetemarco (Isabel Harper Leight) makes a surprising comeback.

Sophia’s return to Blue Bloods as a witness to a crime could upend Erin’s campaign for the DA role yet again.

Earlier in the season, DA Crawford led Erin on a wild goose chase by asking her to investigate an innocent man.

Although she had yet to officially declare her candidacy, Crawford succeeded in sabotaging her plans for the upcoming race.

Erin has now been left with very little time to prepare her campaign, and her next investigation looks like it could cause even more problems.

In episode seven, Heroes, which will air in the first week of December, the daughter of Anthony Abetemarco (Steve Schirripa) will have a surprising connection to a violent case.

An official synopsis reads: “Erin and Anthony clash when Anthony’s daughter, Sophia, is the sole eyewitness to a fatal shooting.

“Also, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) wants to punish an off-duty cop for his inaction during an armed robbery.

“Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) investigate a violent mugging with some unwanted help from Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).”

“And Eddie and her partner, Badillo (Ian Quinlan), help an attack victim see the brighter side of New York City.”

In between Blue Bloods’ usual police drama, the next episode will feature an unexpected row between the two colleagues, Erin and Anthony.

Anthony has worked closely with Erin throughout her stint as the Assistant DA, and their working relationship has usually been amicable and even friendly at times.

Unfortunately, Sophia’s involvement in the upcoming investigation appears to have put the two colleagues at odds with each other.

Clashing with Anthony will not only put a damper on their working environment, but it’s also coming at the worst possible time for Erin with DA Crawford still breathing down her neck.

If Crawford sees Erin disagreeing with one of her closest co-workers, she may try to use it to her advantage and further discredit her ploy for the DA position.

It’s currently unknown how exactly Erin and Antony will disagree, as Blue Bloods’ current hiatus means no promo for the next episode has been released just yet.

However, it could be speculated the determined ADA will be a little too intense when she interrogates Sophia about what she remembers about the violent shooting.

Anthony may also be treating his daughter a little too kindly while Erin believes she knows more than she’s letting on, leading to a major row about how witnesses should be handled.

Either way, it could spell trouble for Erin’s hopes for a promotion heading into the second half of Blue Bloods’ current season.

Blue Bloods season 13 continues Friday, December 2 on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
