Go ahead and check off “not here for the right reasons” on your “Bachelorette” season bingo card.
After last week’s season premiere set up some tension between Aaron, a 26-year-old insurance agent, and Cody, a 27-year-old zipper salesman, Monday’s episode gives viewers a better understanding of why the two men have beef. Spoiler alert: They know each other from back home in San Diego and each think the other has questionable morals.
A mud-wrestling group date features John, Andrew S., Kyle, Josh, Aaron, Brendan, Hunter, and Cody. Surprise! Aaron and Cody are paired up to wrestle each other.
After a figuratively and literally messy battle, Aaron walks away victorious, which means he gets to spend some solo time with Katie. He uses that time to explain that he knows Cody and is concerned he may be on the show just to become famous.
“We’re not really cool, we’re not friends. There were just some social media posts, just things he did that kind of rubbed me the wrong way,” Aaron says. “I know he really wants to become famous and get on the show for those reasons. The way he handles situations, to me, I find disturbing.”

Cody gets a chance to defend himself that night at the group date cocktail party, during which Katie pulls him aside and argues Aaron’s claims are “just not factual information” and says “it may be exaggerations” but stops short of fully denying he came on the show for fame.
“It is concerning to me that Aaron… would then go out of his way to say something that’s just completely not true,” Katie tells him as tears start to well up in her eyes. “It’s hard to feel like one of you are lying to me, straight to my face.”

There’s no coming back from that conversation – especially after Cody divulges in an interview afterward that he’s “so mad” and “wanted to (expletive) yell so bad out there.” Katie steps away before eventually returning to inform Cody his time on the show has come to an end.
“Ultimately I don’t feel that we have trust and it’s so early to feel that way,” she tells him. “That’s unfortunate, and so there’s really no point to drag this on any longer.”

One more contestant down, 22 to go – just not tonight. There’s no rose ceremony this episode, which means we’re left on a cliffhanger in week 2 with Cody as the sole contestant to exit.
We already know two contestants are safe: Greg, the 27-year-old marketing sales representative from Edison, New Jersey, who got the first 1-on-1 date of the season after nabbing the first impression rose last week; and first group date rose recipient Thomas, a 28-year-old real estate broker from Poway, California.
But could Thomas’ victory be short-lived? A teaser for future episodes suggests he has expressed interest in becoming the next “Bachelor” star, which could spell trouble for his relationship with Katie – especially after her swift goodbye to Cody.
