17 “It Chapter Two” Behind-The-Scenes Facts That Are Downright Fascinating

? Warning: Spoilers ahead. ?

1.The filmmakers used CGI to “de-age” most of the kid actors.

Jessica Chastain said the actor who played Mrs. Kersh, Joan Gregson, was “so incredible, she was just amazing, and up for anything.” Apparently, Andy Muschietti would be directing and say, “Freeze!” And then, “Now go!”

4.BillSkarsgård would actually warm up and get into character as Pennywise in a secluded tent.

He’d have his final makeup touches done, and sometimes even let out an evil laugh.

5.And he would often Skype with his brothers while in the Pennywise makeup.

According to on-set prosthetic makeup effects key artist Shane Zander, “They (Bill’s brothers) would really get a kick out of it.”

6.A record-breaking 4,500 gallons of fake blood was used in the scene where Beverly is trapped in a bathroom stall. (Supposedly the most fake blood ever used in a film scene.)

Chastain had to be covered in the fake blood for the rest of the production for continuity purposes, too. She told Vanity Fair, “Before every take, they had a small kiddie pool filled with the cold blood, and [they’d] pour it on me.”

7.Skarsgård’s costume and makeup team were lovingly called “the Pennywise unit.”

It took two artists to apply his prosthetics each day, Zander and Sean Sansom.

8.Chastain gave all the Losers, both adults and kids, a wooden box engraved with their respective characters’ names and “Loser” (with the “V” over the “S”) engraved on it.

Inside their boxes was each character’s “token” from the movie.

9.Bill Skarsgård gave Andy Muschietti his fake Pennywise teeth as a gift when they wrapped shooting principal photography.

Muschietti joked that it was like a “ritual.”

10.Jeremy Ray Taylor grew 9″ taller between filming the first movie and the second.

The filmmakers had to do things like shave his legs and pluck his eyebrows to make him look younger.

11.Wolfhard said his fellow young Losers’ Club members are “all my best friends now.”

“We basically talk everyday,” he said.

12.Adult Richie and Eddie’s reactions to seeing THAT Pomeranian were all improvised.

And ALL hilarious, IMO.

13.Stephen King specifically asked if two scenes could be added to the movie — the first, which they did add, was the one where Paul Bunyan chases young Richie…

According to Muschietti, King loves Paul Bunyan.

14.…and the second, which they did not add, was where the Derry Standpipe collapses and rolls down the hill at the end of the book.

Muschietti wanted to end the movie on a more emotional, intimate note, so it was left out.

15.It didn’t make it into the movie, but Bill Hader also did an improvised André the Giant voice (much like his Jabba the Hutt one).

Maybe we’ll see it on a Blu-Ray extra???

16.The only time during production that all of the cast (the Losers’ Club kids and adults) were collectively together was during the table read.

“It was kind of surreal,” Jay Ryan told The Hollywood Reporter.

17.And finally, as you probably know, It shows up every 27 years in Derry — well, both It Chapter One and It Chapter Two‘s release dates tally up to 27.

It Chapter Two‘s release date is Sept. 6, 2019 (9+6+2+0+1+9 = 27)

It Chapter One‘s release date was Sept. 8, 2017 (9+8+2+0+1+7 = 27)

Coincidence? I think not.
