13 Reasons Why creator lands Echoes, first Netflix role since teen thriller

Netflix is home to an array of thrillers and dramas that keep subscribers hooked to the very end. From The Stranger and White Lines to The Queen’s Gambit and Pieces of Her, the streaming service has produced a number of hits in recent years. One of its biggest has been the unforgettable 13 Reasons Why which initially caught fans’ attention when it came out in 2017.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Echoes.

13 Reasons Why, originally a book written by Jay Asher in 2007, tells the tale of Hannah (played by Katherine Langford) who tragically takes her own life.

Two weeks later, her friend and love interest Clay (Dylan Minnette) finds a mysterious box on his porch containing recordings made by Hannah, explaining all of the reasons why she took her life.

13 Reasons Why on Netflix was created by producer and screenwriter Brian Yorkey with singer Selena Gomez working as one of the show’s executive producers.

The drama ran for four seasons, rounding off the story for good in 2020.

Two years later, Yorkey has been back at it again, this time working hard on brand new thriller Echoes.

When Express.co.uk spoke to actress Alise Willis ahead of the series premiere, she explained how the two dramas are alike.

“Well I don’t want to put my foot in my mouth but Brian Yorkey is amazing”, Willis began.

“I think there are definite similarities, there’s that realness and the authenticity of what’s really going on.”

Willis continued: “You have some shows where it’s not as truthful to the circumstances and I feel with 13 Reasons Why and Echoes, they’re very relatable and real in my opinion.

“I’m so excited about this series, I really think the fans are going to be surprised.”

Echoes is a seven-part drama that revolves around the lives of twin sisters Gina and Leni (played by Michelle Monaghan).

As subscribers will quickly realise, they have been tricking all of their loved ones for decades.
