One Direction's Louis Tomlinson Signs Record Deal with BMG

One Direction‘s Louis Tomlinson is continuing to make big moves in the music business after dominating pop culture in the boyband for years. The “Too Young” singer announced new world tour dates on May 10, as well as a freshly-inked record deal with BMG for his next solo album. Here are the details on the Doncaster native‘s tour dates and new record deal.

Louis Tomlinson was with these labels in One Direction and solo

While with One Direction, Tomlinson co-created the albums Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, Four, and Made in the A.M. All of the albums came out via Syco Music and Columbia Records.

Both labels are part of the Sony Music Entertainment family, and The X Factor judge Simon Cowell founded Syco Music. Therefore, Cowell clearly had a large influence over One Direction even after they finished the reality show competition.

Post One Direction, Tomlinson had signed with Epic Records in 2017, per Variety. According to the outlet, Epic Records President Sylvia Rhone “campaigned” for Tomlinson after hearing his single “Back to You” with Bebe Rexha. The song was his second solo collaboration, with his first being “Just Hold On” with DJ Steve Aoki.

A couple of years after signing with Epic, Tomlinson made a deal with Arista. Both Epic and Arista are under the Sony parent company. Even though Tomlinson made multiple record label deals, he still was affiliated with Syco Music as well throughout that time.

In July 2020, Tomlinson shared with his fans that he was departing from Syco Music. He didn’t share what his next record label would be — likely due to still sorting it out privately.

Almost a year after Tomlinson’s Twitter announcement, news dropped which record label he’d be joining for his second solo album.

Tomlinson signed with BMG for his next album, per Music Week.

“We are delighted to welcome Louis to BMG,” BMG Vice President Jamie Nelson stated. “He is already busy working on new music, and we are excited to join him on the next phase of his extraordinary career.”

BMG houses artists such as David Bowie, Fergie, John Legend, Lenny Kravitz, Alt-J, and Kylie Minogue.

Louis Tomlinson announced new tour dates for his 2022 world tour

While Tomlinson’s second record hasn’t come out yet, he also has yet to tour his first album, Walls. The tour was cut short in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and Tomlinson has rescheduled his tour dates multiple times.

He shared new dates on his social media feed on May 10 and joked about multiple attempts to give fans new dates.

“Let’s try this one last time,” he said. “All shows on my world tour will be moving back to 2022 and I’m excited to announce the first wave of new dates. I can’t wait to see you all soon, it’s going to be special!”
