Lorraine Kelly has slammed internet trolls for ruining the lives of young stars.
The TV legend is urging vulnerable celebs to avoid social media.
As she picked up the Outstanding Contribution gong at the TV Choice Awards, Lorraine said: “I was really lucky.
“When I started out there was no Twitter and there was no social media. I was allowed when I was a kid to make mistakes.
“I honestly think in this day and age I would be absolutely slaughtered.
“I think it’s really difficult. I really feel so passionately about this.
“It’s so difficult for young actors and actresses and young presenters these days because they have to deal with some really vile things on the internet and it’s horrible.”
Lorraine added: “A plea from me… do not go on it. Use it because, obviously, we all do. But don’t look at the comments and don’t take those comments to heart. It’s just not worth it.
“They’re horrible nasty ants with megaphones, so don’t listen to them.”
Her emotional call came just hours after Little Mix star Jesy Nelson revealed that internet trolling had left her suicidal.
Caring Lorraine went on: “That girl should have been on top of the world when she won The X Factor.
“And instead she was dying inside. And she had such a bad time that she tried to take her own life.
“That cannot continue.”
Speaking to a crowd which was packed with young soap stars and reality TV wannabes, Lorraine added: “Take care of yourself, take care of each other and just be kind and enjoy the best business in the world.”
