Is Sabrina Carpenter's New Song, 'Skin' in Response to Drama With Olivia Rodrigo?

There is a big rumor connected to Olivia Rodrigo’s hit. Now it looks like the talk about the inspiration for the song won’t stop any time soon. That’s because Sabrina Carpenter released a new song called “Skin.” The lyrics might be in response to Rodrigo’s music.

Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Driver’s License’ is rumored to be about Joshua Bassett

Rodrigo released a song called “Driver’s License” on Jan. 8. It’s rumored to be about Joshua Bassett, her co-star from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. There is a rumor they were dating while working together only to breakup.

The 17-year-old singer sings that she got her driver’s license like she once talked about with someone in the song. But now he is with someone else who’s blonde. Now she finds herself talking about him with her friends and driving past his street alone.

The blonde in the song has been rumored to be Carpenter. Bassett soon released his own song called, “Lie, Lie, Lie.” Rodrigo has decided to not dive into all of the details around the inspiration for the song or her rumored past with her 20-year-old co-star.

“I totally understand people’s curiosity with the specifics of who the song’s about and what it’s about, but to me, that’s really the least important part of the song,” she told Billboard.

She added, “It’s resonating with people because of how emotional it is, and I think everything else is not important.” However, people might continue to wonder because Carpenter has now released her own song.

Sabrina Carpenter dropped ‘Skin’

It looks like the music drama might be continuing with Carpenter’s new release. She released a song called “Skin” on Jan. 22. The lyrics seem to acknowledge Rodrigo’s hit and more.

The song opens with “Maybe we could have been friends if I met you in another life/Maybe then we could pretend there’s no gravity in the words we write.”

It then goes on to seemingly call out the line from Rodrigo’s song. “Maybe you didn’t mean it/Maybe blonde was the only rhyme,” she sings. She goes on to talk about telling her own story and refusing to let another person get under her skin.

Bassett and Carpenter haven’t said they’re dating

Although there have been rumors, Basset and Carpenter haven’t confirmed they’re dating. But fans figured that might be the case.

That’s because they made a Tik Tok video together in November. Carpenter is seen dressed up as Lavagirl and Bassett is dressed as Sharkboy. She is about to sneeze and Basset tries to stop it. But she does anyway and someone turns on a lighter.

Season 2 of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is in the works. So Bassett and Rodrigo will still be working together after all of this. Only time will tell if anyone will address the rumor around their latest music.
